Dear Eric: Minor correction...it's St. John the Baptist Parish, not St. John Parish. I know because I worked there for 3 years in the St. John the Baptist Parish Library. They're very picky about getting the name right.
So Log cabin Republicans are astonished that Trumpy Republicans want to deny their civil rights. And Arabs for Trump are startled that he wants to make the Gaza Strip into a parking lot. And folks who have immigrated here are surprised that their family members are going to removed forcibly.
I genuinely have all the love for the innocent bystanders. But fuck the people who hurt others.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but just saying, the professional TV people on The Weather Channel are the most oddly, incongruently-dressed professional TV people on TV.
Because of the people who bought into Trump's racism he brainwashed him with in order to get them to vote against their own interests, there will be more of them
So (especially if you & your didn't do all you could to persuade the White ignorant and / or drag the ones in your family to the polls) ... get ready to get used to it
If you did, how do you know they didn't lie to you?
Did you ask them if they had asked everyone THEY knew?
And not just after the fact, when it wouldn't do much good. Were all the people in “your circle” asked ahead of time if they were having trouble registering, or trouble getting to the polls, or if they had a ride?
And even if all that were handled, how do you know if they did or didn't vote for the apocalypse we're staring in the face now? Or, again, if they lied to you about it?
And why of all the things we could be discussing that are related to this outcome would you jump forward to quibble about that when the racism that drove the bad decisions has been a problem not for 8 years, but for 400-plus?
Anyone who didn't see THAT coming is a twit... I've long said that overturning Roe, then Obergefell, then Griswold, and then Loving are just stops on the road to their ultimate end... overturning Brown.
I was talking to a friend about this before Christmas. I told him they were going after marriage equality next and he didn't believe me. I must be a genius.
Right after the election, was in a conversation with one of those "both parties are the same" and "its all petty partisan propaganda" person, and I mentioned that I was voting to keep my (lesbian) marriage legal. The super-smart/above-it-all person scoffed and insisted "No one is coming after your marriage!"
I remember thinking "dude, have you not noticed what these people are saying?"
I really thought as many White people who were talking about being ashamed and embarrassed there would have been less people feeling like they had to feel like that this time ... because I was naïve enough to believe they meant it when they said they'd persuade their neighbors and cousins of the stakes of doing better, "even if that meant" electing a (super-competent, overqualified) Black and Indian woman into that office.
Those of us who believed it would happen had faith. Perhaps it was misplaced.
Not even talking directly to or about what any particular person might or might not have done; just musing
That Black people would get the same rights, or pay rate for same work, or access to healthcare, that they enjoy as White people??
If that's why they made the choices they made, to refuse to vote for someone who would help them as well as help people who don't look like them -- do they really deserve an outsize portion of the empathy the rest of us have left as well ... whether or not they "feeeeel" entitled to it??
We've checked on our niece in Van Nuys. She's fine. I'm not going to bother anyone else while they're under this stress. I've got a little PTSD going right now.
I did have a nice evening at a place in town where my friend was playing bass in a jazz duo with his guitarist buddy. There may have been vin. Hope all is well in your corner of the world.
Markets are getting really queasy about trump (same fucking assholes who gave Biden no credit for several really good years and ra ra'd that orange POS). Bond yields soaring, inflation is back on the worry list and the stock market keeps dribbling down or flat.
First, maintenance took down ALL our stanchion lines last night to "clean the floors." Thanks guys. That means we didn't have time to teach everyone the weird new posts because we had to reset all that in under an hour! It was fucking keystone cops, I swear.
THEN managers had to spend the next two hours correcting everyone doing the posts wrong because the cheatsheet was wrong or it ended up not being what that post needed (ex: we thought the lines for staffers would be rather long. NOPE. turns out instead of making sure not too many people go at once, we're wrangling staffers wandering hither and yon because they don't realize they just walked the staff line and are at the merge, and are looking for the staff line).
We kind of had it down by eleven am. Ish. I was in Rotunda from noon to one and we had twelve hundred people through in that time. With stops for congressional respects-paying (Yertle, Lindsay, mostly senators). Allegedly TFG is gonna show up at four so glad I worked the early shift and am LONG gone for that shitshow (if an POTUS or similar ranked human shows, we have to clear the Rotunda. as one coworker said "why can't he just go to the funeral like all the other presidents?")
Ta, Erik. $300 for a human life. Even in 19th century dollars, that's low.

BHITSFO, Bury Head In The Sand; Find Out. (This too is also pronounced, "ashurnagurnaberkey.")
I'm sincerely pissed off at these people. They have actually done harm. I wish that I believed in hell, because they belong there.
People are suffering and dying because of those scummy turds. I feel so helpless.

I was saddened to learn runaway slaves were branded with Fleur de Lis, one of my favorite symbols.
That's because the French were not innocent of the barbarism of slaveholding White Englishmen and White Americans

The only good log cabin is this strain I've got.
Well, and actual log cabins I guess.
But not the Republican one, that's terrible.
Late for the Insurrection?

It's a bit late to assassinate Carter now.
I am REALLY tired of scary assholes.

Dude was a grandma on tour, a BLM false flagger, and a patriot trying to save America all rolled into one!
Thanks again, Ronnie.
The absence of functional federal mental health facilities have made the US such a happier, safer nation.
But then a complete lunatic wouldn't be able to become POTUS.

Wonder what those Log Cabin idiots think about all this.
Anyone who didn't see THAT coming is a twit... I've long said that overturning Roe, then Obergefell, then Griswold, and then Loving are just stops on the road to their ultimate end... overturning Brown.

I've seen the same dudes who scoffed that worrying about Roe was just girl-brain hysterics say the same kind of thing.
And when you ask them how THAT turned out, they go strangely silent.
That person WASN'T listening at all or didn't believe it.
FAFO really is a thing. Also misogyny.
FAFO is a pandemic.
It's the AKBFOA that brings much pain: Already Know But Find Out Anyway. (Pronounced "Ashurnagurnaburkey.")
Frankly I was astonished by how many idiots decided to Google "Tarrifs" after the election. White Americans are so fucking stupid.
I say this as a white American person. It's so godamm embarrassing.
Yeah. This brings me much joyful mirth at the expense of The Fucking IDIOTS. And mirthful joy, also too!
I am ashamed of being a white american male person. I can't help it anymore.

I no longer have faith or hope.
It is going to be hell here, the racist dominionists will bring back lynching and miscegenation laws
And that's just the start.
It's not officially stupid until you "get up a petition".
"It's a miracle that these morons haven't figured out that we're selling them maple flavored corn syrup."
"They told me it was cough medicine!"
I don't wonder . I have more than enough to be outraged about already today.
[pours bucket of XO for Hammy, with bendable straw]
Does he not merit a little cradle and warming candle??
No. The last time gb tried the cradle thing I broke it with my bulk. Where I got the splinter is still healing.
🙄
Well, you asked!
Thank you so much. That bendable straw made my day!
It's so that you can keep drinking as you're lying on the floor.
Exactly. However, I feel quite safe now under the workstation. If only The Crew would allow my shift position once in a while.
Well this comes as a shock! Let’s not tell my gay husband.
I can't believe the homos fell for this hetero trick.
Also, "one man one woman"?
Have these morons ever read the Old Testament? Okay, dumb question.
But both parties are the same.
Red regression resulting from resentment.
What did they "resent, though, Skepti?? Come on.

he's not even in office yet, everywonk
it's going to be another very, very long time before anyone shuts off the valve on the ceaseless torrent of fuckery heading our way :/
It’s exhausting, and he isn’t even officially on the job yet.
It's meant to be exhausting. They're trying to wear us down.
We can be exhausted and without hope... but we still have to work, and still have to resist.
OT: Finally, the planes are dropping Phos-Chek on the Palisades.

(peace and vin to you, o)
I did have a nice evening at a place in town where my friend was playing bass in a jazz duo with his guitarist buddy. There may have been vin. Hope all is well in your corner of the world.
it is, but I heaven knows I don't have a niece in Van Nuys - how very nice :]
(is your nice niece a nurse in Van Nuys?)
You mean they haven't until now? The weather must be sucking badly.
The high winds have made such intervention impossible until now. I am SO grateful that this is finally happening.
I choose to blame it all on President Musk today.
The sooner THAT meddling miscreant goes down in flames the better off we shall be.
I don't want flames. I want a plasma that's so hot that it meets the Lawson criterion.
(Fusion physics. Not a joke.)
Too much wind.
For fires, that makes for a "perfect storm" to use a terrible expression.
Drought, dry air, high winds. It's a trifecta.
It's a "perfect blyat."
Funny because true

This country is a complete failure.
It's the racism
Without it, we'd at least be able to trust the country would be in safe hands and be shepherded through a crisis

Agree, but I'm going with "species" today.
And some people wonder why I smoke SO much fucking pot...
I can't smoke pot and these days that's a fucking shame.
If anything, "so much" is probably "not enough" here in 2025 America.
If you smoke enough to find a better timeline, let us know what type and how much.
"Some People". Big strong men with tears in their eyes?
You are, in fact, too entirely accurate.
I'm certainly no history maven, and did not know when Truman was born, but I knew for DAMNED sure he wasn't president in 1867.
He woulda been a bit old to succeed FDR, if he had been.
45-52, I think, without looking it up.
And then Bruce Wayne, John D. Rockefeller, Space Hitler, and Regular Hitler joined forces to crush the Boxer Rebellion.
Markets are getting really queasy about trump (same fucking assholes who gave Biden no credit for several really good years and ra ra'd that orange POS). Bond yields soaring, inflation is back on the worry list and the stock market keeps dribbling down or flat.
"Markets are getting really queasy about trump"
I don’t give a good g*ddamn, frankly.
Because WE TRIED TO TELL THEM.
And THEY REFUSED TO LISTEN.

Market makers always win. They short the fuck on stocks and retirement funds suffer. Trumpanomics.
guess I have to change my retirement plan back to living in a refrigerator box on the corner
Include the curtain rod for the pigeons
Good.
Nobody could have seen this coming.
Absolutely no one.
That’s what Condoleza Rice said!
If she said that, she's the only Black woman who said it out loud.
Stop trying to scapegoat Black women for literally everything, like people do Oprah for the travesties of Phil and Oz, when
a) ninety-two percent of the rest of us tried to tell you and
b) as long as White people remain a numerical majority in this country, it really is White people's fault.
Both times.
