I know they are not little owls, but I love them because they remind me of little owls....is that OK? Thank you for a new bird, although I remember reading a book, long ago and I've forgotten the title, but a bird calling, "Poor me," was featured. One of those bits of useless information that keeps bouncing around in my head. I didn't know what they looked like then, and now I do. Happy.

It's a camoflage birb!

I was taken aback for a minute listening to the Potoo call that started out with the man cataloging it I thought wow! they really do sound human!

They remind me of the Whip Poor Wills I've seen here in Kansas as they have excellent tree camo too.

I first read it as "It's a great photo..." which is true.

I’m just wondering how it would do on a birch, or other white bark. Am I just an “aside” person?

That's not a real animal, that's some sort of Jim Henson creation!

I'm pretty sure that those G.L.O.V.E. things are going to kill some people by sending them into cardiac arrest or fibrillation that will be promptly ignored or ridiculed by ICE sadists gathered to watch until resuscitation efforts are finally, grudgingly and half-assedly, but futilely begun.

I've been electrically shocked by many things in my life. It certainly IS distracting and quickly leads to involuntary and voluntary movement to escape. Other than intense adrenaline rush and maybe having to apologize for the metaphorically burning ears of people within earshot of my robust cussing, I was unscathed. But a common thread was that it was my own movement that had initiated the electrical contact, and typically, simply reversing the movement would break contact. Often this was reflexive.

Contact made by someone else intent on maintaining that connection is a whole other thing. “Conductive distraction and de-escalation device” is a highly euphemistic and lengthy way to say torture.

I'm pretty sure that Markwayne, Miller, and Glorious Leader, are all HOPING they will kill some people!

The Zuckerbergs of the world dp not have to provide help to anyone who is not on their socio-economic level. It's in the Rich Rule Guidebook.

Of course Mr. Pump and Dump and Co. were doing what they are best at. Never a question in my mind, and he admits he'd do the same thing again...or at least I believe that's what he was saying when he said, "...with a different drug today, I think we would make the same decision.”

Good Morning Rebecca!!!!

Happy International Lefthanders Day!

We all know how Left Handers were treated the way trans people are treated today, and we all love pointing out to RWNJ that the Catholic Church, no less, said once that Left Handers (Sinister in Latin) were of the Devil, and forced to write with their right hand. “Handedness assigned at birth!”

And we all know how the flap of cloth that covers the fly on trousers is designed for righties, how shirts button to favor righties, how place settings favor righties, how can openers and scissors favor righties, how screws and bolts favor righties. It’s a right-handed world, and accomodations are all lefties ask. That’s all trans people ask.

Rosy red ASS's avatar

My mom used to boast that I was the only one of her six daughters who was too headstrong for her to switch from left to right. She successfully switched two of us. I did learn how to use my right hand for a LOT though. Writing and eating NO but scissors, pliers, crocheting and a few other things yes.

Catergate began when trump's gifted plane was deemed vulnerable to attack by Iran so they fly another plane in. I speculate the security systems on both to be identical. He just didn't want his shiny new toy put in jeopardy.

If the old one gets blown out of the sky, no bigly.

Warren's avatar

It’s a used plane. It already has been scratched. (The first scratch is always the hardest for guys to take.)

Spotts1701's avatar

No, it probably wasn't. The reason *why* it takes so long to convert a 747 to Air Force One is you have to strip the entire plane down to the bare frame, harden every inch of wiring to withstand an EMP, install the mid-air refueling equipment and the electronic countermeasures suite, and then put the plane back together. It can't be done in 9 months.

tek's avatar

"See! now I need the new plane!"

The only "war" I've seen on the Dem side is from Hasan Piker and some his fans screaming leftists need to go knives out (actual words) on Dems because Hong narrowly lost and also the GOP has now noticed Piker and is targeting him for all his...everything (why attack Dems for that? It's Piker, Dems get attacked for everything). He's losing his shit because he's never had to deal with the right actually gunning for him before. He's an echo chamber guy. Wisconsin is rightly ignoring him entirely and hopefully Michigan will start on that soon (El-Sayed, here is a bus, please put Piker under it!).

Rosy red ASS's avatar

So Piker is an actual PIKER?

TerseNurse's avatar

I don't really know the Piker guy, and I don't think I care to.

El-Sayed has distanced himself from Piker in some of his interviews, so that's a start.

Warren's avatar

He said he wanted to get a diversity of opinions. Like reaching out to Joe Rogan. As M will attest, candidates will appear on Morton Downey’s Talk Show and get a chair thrown at them if it means exposure to registered voters.

I talked to a person who didn't know who Jimothy is. Has the internet finally reached its limits? I told them to Google it and learn.

Also, Mr. Olyphant is a siler fox. I'm not sorry for saying it. Foxy, Foxy.

Also, too, I'm hearing that more rats are leaping to their soft landings from the Good Ship Lollipop now that Orange Boy is most likely cooked by November.

What a time to be alive Wonkette. I was hoping for a boring middle age but here we are.

For a while, my impression was that most Democrats in Congress were personally more liberal than their voting records would suggest. People who began with a version of 1960s idealism but had concluded long ago that, after Reagan, the party had to settle. Meaning they had to simply defend the gains in civil rights and women’s rights, and push only for small incremental reforms like ACA. They seemed to believe that they had to appease the business sector with labor-unfriendly measures just to remain viable as a party. But they didn’t seem to realize that when Democrats move toward the center, especially on economic issues, Republicans move further right partly as a defensive tactic.

A day or so after Election Day in November 2016, I was walking around in a big-box store, unable to meet anyone’s gaze, wondering how many of the other shoppers had gladly voted for Trump’s professed tyranny. Today’s establishment Democrats seem locked into that mentality, paralyzed by disillusionment and doubt like they have a political form of depression. Unlike the older Republicans that Clinton and Obama ran against, they don’t sound like Kids Today grumps, with exceptions like James Carville who isn’t even an officeholder.

My optimistic side wants the establishment Democrats to see that the progressive insurgents are generating all the energy, evoking ideals that the party has long claimed to stand for.

Reader's avatar

This seems like an incredibly naive and hopeful take on mainstream Dems. I envy you.

PrimerGray's avatar

I would write occasionally here that it was Ms. Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie drawing the crowds and creating energy. There is the example for which way the party should go, Democrats.
