The first 14 years of my life were without TV access, other than occasionally on visits to family or friends places, so I always felt somewhat apart from popular culture and pressure to conform to consumption demands from advertising. I find myself wondering how it has impacted Gen the Umpteenth, who are constantly accused of being entitled and thinking they "deserve" everything.
Anyhoo, was watching this vid on influencers and psychological pressure. Not the same as a supposed billionaire knocking down The People's House, but it gives me some insight.
For a while public speaking was part of my job, so I joined Toastmasters to sharpen my skills. Had a lot of fun, and also entered some contests. It was startling to see how incredibly competitive some people were: they really did feel they were worthless if they didn't beat all the rest. Interestingly, they all wanted to be motivational speakers.
I guess some people are that way with money and possessions. Someone like M*** really thinks he's no one if he's not Number One??? Trying to think why. Maybe because for much of our evolution material goods were so scarce and involved so much work??? Having more than others proved you were smarter and better than the rest of the tribe? Hence Conspicuous Consumption?
And also, too, he who dies with the most ex-wives wins?
The clumsily dancing elephant in the room: this monstrosity of a ballroom is probably going to take a long time to build, if indeed it ever gets built. Trump is a very sick old man. Surely he doesn't believe he's ever going to make any use of it. So what was the point, other than, of course, simply his glee in leaving stupid destruction as his mark on the White House itself? He has already shit all over the Constitution and the American People, so I guess he had to make it a trifecta and go for the White House.
I dunno...I'm guessing some shoddy piece of shit will be built that won't hold together should a little more than a stiff breeze hit D.C. The only architectural plan will be by Eric (in crayon) and contractors will be relatives of current cabinet members, whether they have experience or not.
At least I'm hoping this will be the case. I would dance around gleefully watching that monstrosity come down, preferably while he's holding a "ball" with all his billionaire buddies in attendance.
