I was just thinking the same. Nice things, expanding our boundaries/knowledge and often a giggle prompting TAB.

Ta, Martini. I'd never heard of the piglet squid. Adorable.

The final flourish of the squid dropping off the screen is the icing on the cake.

It's a horned bubblefish!

Fondly known as "The Platypus of the Squid World", by me, anyway. The nickname hasn't caught fire in ichthyological circles.

It looks to me like the aquatic piglet might have binocular vision...

Today, October 1st. My wife and I went into Yellowstone to see what if anything has changed in the park on the first day of the shutdown. We're happy to report that there were no detectable differences in the park. Everything was operating normally, all the buildings and Xanterra concessions were open, park rangers were present and although staffing must have been reduced, it wasn't evident. In short YNP today slowed no effects. If the shutdown is a long one then things will start to fray but that's okay since at this time of years the park starts to slowly close down anyway.

In "all politics is local" news my city council is threatening to cancel an already fully funded project because it will involve eminent domaining some unused forest land near an adjacent village, and they think their NIMBYs don't want a bike path back there. In reality, it's maybe 1 vocal NIMBY, and the rest of the neighborhood (as well as the rest of the city) has been looking forward to the bike path. Mostly because it means their children can ride their bikes to school or to the small central part of the old village without getting run over.

Anyway, we're all going to descend upon the town hall next Tuesday when the commission was going to vote to back out of the project to say exactly why it's wasteful to do so. We voted for this, it was approved, it's already paid for - stop being cowards.

I'm at a point where I feel that the next Democratic President should declare an emergency and suspend the Supreme Court, impeach the six Republicans and declare void every ruling since Citizen United.

Henry Ford hospital had a “reason” for not letting striking nurses help respond to the Michigan Trump nut’s attack on the Grand Blanc LDS church. I’m not sure if it’s a “good” reason.

At least it wasn’t antisemitism, which was my first guess.

Waiting at my doctor’s office. I got here twenty minutes early, so now I’m here sipping tea.

Getting out of bed this morning was surprisingly easy. Woke up before my alarm, showered, scrubbed face and shaved, got dressed, and even had time to make a bottle of instant tea before I left. Made it to the bus stop in plenty of time, too. I impressed myself.

I rather wish I hadn’t started thinking about obligations. Like how I have to work tomorrow (but I’m off Friday!) or how it is now October and my rent is due before the fifth. I really don’t want to, but I may have to get rid of my tablet to cover even my subsidized rent and some groceries.

(The tablet was a gift from my brother after my strokes. His company had a barely-used iPad they were getting rid of, and my brother—bless him—even paid for a battery replacement before giving it to me. With a stylus, it’s been my note-taking and frequently comment-posting friend for months. I don’t even carry a notebook around anymore, I scribble on the tablet, and my handwriting is getting much better. Hell, the translation of my writing is far more accurate than it was.)

I hate having to make decisions like this. I really freaking do.

But not all bad news! After my appointment, I’m hopping a bus to go window shopping and possibly drooling at some fall dresses and whatnot. Might even try on a pair of shoes if I’m feeling frisky.

(I wrote that like an hour ago, but it didn’t send because the signal is spotty in this building. BUT! HUGE UPDATE! I have been given by my endocrinologist’s office a new continuous glucose monitor! I’m so friggin’ happy I can’t stand it. So at least one major worry is off my shoulders.

tempusfugit's avatar

This is such good news about the monitor! I am so sorry about the tablet, and hope very much there is some way for you to keep it..........

Cajun Kid's avatar

The glucose monitor is a huge win for me. As for my tablet, it’s the only thing worth any money I can even possibly sell off. As heartbreaking as it is, it’s either that or…bad things. So I may be sad but at least I’ll be able to pay my rent.

Oliver Furman's PA's avatar

Yay glucose monitor! Feelin' frisky enough to try on those shoes now? I hope you don't lose your tablet. It's sucks balls to have to sell your possessions to pay bills/feed yourself - I've been there. Hoping for the best for you, Kid!

Cajun Kid's avatar

Trying on shoes will happen today! Sadly, my tablet going to a better place is almost a foregone conclusion—I’d rather not face eviction or go hungry. BUT!!! I am still celebrating what I can, and having blood glucose readings again is a reason to celebrate.

Celebrating the wins is important.

I guess we should be grateful they didn't say FEMA is 1500% faster.

Oh and any gamer knows that EA is garbage. They make that Madden game your uncle plays when he's drunk. I guess Battlefield 6 is kind of a big deal right now but that whole series has sucked since Battlefield 2. They are the most mercenary game company and make the lowest quality AAA games for the money you spend. And they don't care because they have enough money to buy sports IP. Worse than Ubisoft.
