While Evan gets into it right here at Yr Wonkette (and you should read it, really!), Our Liz, and the other guy too, look at the stolen docs case, Mr. Whale Juice himself & other hilarity in a new pod ep. You know you want some.
The stolen documents case is back! Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the charges against Trump and his goons in July on the theory that special counsels are illegal, and Monday Special Counsel Jack Smith filed his brief to the Eleventh Circuit explaining why she is very obviously wrong. Plus, RFK Jr. dropped out and endorsed Trump. Does that mean he’s off the ballot everywhere?
Project 2025, a comprehensive transition plan organized by conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation to staff the next GOP administration with extremists and implement a far-reaching right-wing agenda, proposes that a second Trump presidency should gut funding for public broadcasting and “reexamine” the relationship between the White House and reporters. These policy proposals laying the framework for the next Republican administration to attack the media are especially notable as former President Donald Trump and his allies have a long history of hostility toward the press, including during the 2024 presidential campaign, and some of Trump’s key allies have openly threatened retaliation against specific journalists and outlets if he is reelected.
For Worldle today I had to just guess South Sudan even though I knew it was wrong to get some pointer to help me narrow things down. There was no way I was going to get that without a little distance/direction help.
Back from a 5-day adventure caused by cancellation of our quick flight down to Orange County on LOL Air (a.k.a. Never Again Air), then LOL Air's inability to get us on another flight other than one with two stops (including Denver) that would have taken 7.5 hours and gotten us to our destination 23 hours after our originally scheduled arrival. So we rented a car and drove all night.
We listened to Kamala's speech on the way down, then went on a news blackout until the drive back up yesterday. News sounds good! Kamala up, Trump down! Si se puede! Plus Trump seems to be adding to his collection of creepo cretins with his embrace of weirdo freakball RFK Jr. I haven't seen this many freaks in one place since that Tod Browning movie.
There used to be a lot of competition among the airlines flying between west coast cities. I mostly flew PSA or Western; both disappeared in the mid-80s.
The $19 redeye between SFO and LAX was always entertaining. The last one of those I flew, the pilot sounded high AF and he piped Creedence Clearwater Revival over the PA. 10/10, would fly again.
One flight I took to LAX left SFO, picked up passengers in Oakland, San Jose, then into the weeds—Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and finally the West Imperial Terminal. You don’t want to get on the commuter flight if you can avoid it!
Then again, you just never know what somebody means when they say “small eggplant.”
This is exactly the style of the best cookbook I have in the house, a 1920's edition of France's "La Bonne Cuisine" that belonged to spouse's grandmother. To use the book, you have to think like a 1920's French grandmother in the Aveyron.
But anyway, whenever a recipe calls for eggplant, we go down and get some grilled eggplant from the Syrian family's restaurant on the corner. I told the mother (who is surely like one of those 1920's French mothers) that it was the best eggplant I'd ever had and she replied, "I know."
After defending his office’s vast spending as University of Florida president, Ben Sasse stands to receive more than $1 million per year through at least 2028, according to a severance agreement released Monday.
The former U.S. senator from Nebraska had more than tripled his office’s expenditures, which went from $5.6 million to $17.3 million, according to a report by the Independent Alligator student newspaper.
Sasse said big spending was necessary for big change. In a statement on social media, he pointed to the fact that the university’s board “extended me full severance and an ongoing role with the university until at least 2028, suggesting no concerns on their part.”
I got a nice random text this morning, when I'm so used to getting poll questions or fundraising requests. Just a picture of someone's blueberry pastry and coffee on a table in a park, with a couple people in the background and the sun shining through tall buildings, maybe Chicago or NY. Very pleasant.
Oh, hey...my colleague, Amanda Jones, is one of the librarians that came under such fire in the past few years, that being called a groomer or pedo kinda paled compared to, you know, the constant death threats thing. She wasn't having it, and now there's a book about it.
It is not news to any of you that book banning is a horrifying, continuing problem in America, especially if you have been reading what Rioter Kelly Jensen has been sharing about the issue. Amanda Jones is a small-town librarian in Louisiana who decided she wasn’t going to let her community remove books by marginalized authors and diverse voices from the shelves. Her fight to stop book banning has received nationwide attention, including from Oprah, as well as death threats from small-minded, hateful people. This book is a memoir that also details the crisis across the country and how people can help stop the hate and get involved locally.
I'm 100% certain that Samuel Alito is eagerly anticipating the appeal of Cannon's opinion reaching the Supreme Court, and, as we speak, sharpening his rationale, such as it is, that special prosecutors are unconstitutional *except* when he says so, like, for instance, to investigate dick-pics of relatives of Democrats.

Martini, I saw this long read about Pablo Escobar's hippos and thought that we haven't had a hippo-themed gif in a while. Just sayin'!

Good idea :)
Code Name: "Bacon Sammich"
like
Too precious projectile pork!
Running pigdog!
English pigdog, I fart in your general direction! I had to go there, look at your name.
Growing up, we had a keeshond rescue who grunted when she ate. We called her pigdog.
lol. We adopted her! My mother found dog breeds to be interesting, but she sure wasn't gonna pay!
Cute as pie,
To tell the troof,
Not just bacon
On the hoof.
A for effort
And not much floof
But there's just one word for your sickly puns:
Woof.
😁 Just kidding, Me! I adore your terrible puns.
Not so much doggerel as piggerel.
I didn't know there were such things as shaggy pigs.
I didn't know if it was a hairy pig or an ugly dog.
Yes, Mangalitsa from Hungary.
Either that, or Wilbur found himself a nice Corgi to play with.
Kunekune!!
YES, that's the one!!! Extremely cute puppy thing.
Schweinhund!
Squee!!!!!
What an adorable Tabs-puppy for today 🥰
Looked like a pigdog to me, or maybe a dogpig, I have trouble remembering the difference.

I'm not sure the m$m thought this through, that even campaign donations (going straight into his pocket) are going to help.
i made some terrific ratatouille and then put spaghetti sauce on it and served it over fettuccini, and loved it.
so did my exceptionally elderly mom. :)

Trump signs are sadly not gone from rural America.
I do see far, far fewer

I loved PSA, with the smiley-face nosecones (a friend thought their company motto should have been "Smiles to go before you sleep").
The $19 redeye between SFO and LAX was always entertaining. The last one of those I flew, the pilot sounded high AF and he piped Creedence Clearwater Revival over the PA. 10/10, would fly again.

One thing that Putin might have over tcfg is hard evidence that tcfg sexually molested &/or raped his daughter Ivanka when she was around 12.
