Hell, it's likely built into their schedules. I know that's how it works for prison guards at least in my area (I have a friend who is a prison guard). He is regularly scheduled for overtime work instead of the prison hiring additional guards.

It was so odd, during my years living there, how different the general vibe of Seattle and that of the police and many elected officials seemed to be even back in the "grunge" era. Though I do remember tolerance of hempfest.
I hope the federal goons who were dispatched to our cities to beat up hippies find out about this. Because they sure do not make that kind of money. It's a big deal for them to know that the PD officers that the goons are standing in for make at least twice as much money.
I don’t want to abolish police, I just want to abolish police departments and replace them with Department(s) of Public Safety, of which armed response officers are merely one lesser branch of several, including fire, ems, mental health, traffic, street patrol/community outreach/homeless outreach, domestic assistance, etc.
The people with all the force cannot be left in charge of themselves. We understand this with our militaries but not with our cops.
