Here's link to a bear cam, this one is a salmon cam but had the best highlight reel going r.n. why highlights? Well it's dark o'clock there right now!

I find the bear cams soothing.

I love it when bears sit and put their front paws on their knees, as if to say, "Alrighty then!"

Having spent time in Juneau and watched these bears (from afar) break off pieces of ice and sled down the mountain, he's probably dreaming of flying down the mountain in that barrow

Yup! Although this mindset is not entirely an import. New England would do well to reckon with this very deeply ingrained weirdness in its culture.

I found the 1989 David Hackett Fischer book 'Albion's Seed' absolutely fascinating.

It doesn't rhyme with barrow

If ursas choose to go that route

I contend that bears exude dogginess. At least, black bears are like retrievers – curious and persistent learners, they're not aggressive unless trapped, and they love to play and enjoy the simple comforts.

Oh, wait, that's cats too. I love them all!

What a week! And it's only Monday. Kilmar Ábrego Garcia released from one prison and already detained again. There ought to be a law against malicious prosecution. Actually I think there is but who's going to tell President TACO.

The thing about the "de minimus" tariff is that it was already incredible expensive to mail stuff to or from the US.

NYT today:

On sending in National Guard troops to other American cities: “We go in, we will solve Chicago in one week,” Trump declares. At the same time, Trump continues to hedge about whether he plans to move ahead in Chicago.

Trump gave a very discursive description of his efforts to stop fighting between nations, referring to Africa, then said he loves “Black people,” and that he did well with Black voters. Trump then says angrily that people call him racist.

Trump says he wants the Defense Department’s name to be changed back to the “Department of War.”

He also falsely claimed that under Biden, “nobody” wanted to sign up to be a firefighter or police officer or serve in the military.

“I don’t like a dictator, I’m not a dictator.”

The president has displayed soccer’s World Cup trophy on a table next to his desk in the Oval Office, days after he asked the president of the sport’s global governing body -- who had brought it for an event -- if he could keep it. Questions have been raised about the common refrain that the World Cup trophy is “solid gold,” a statement Trump echoed just now that has been made for many years, because its weight, according to some experts, is too light to be entirely gold.

“WHAT IS GOING ON IN SOUTH KOREA?” Trump wrote. “Seems like a Purge or Revolution. We can’t have that and do business there.”

NYT: "President Trump, in an Oval Office appearance with President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea as the decades-old alliance between their two nations shows signs of strain, praised the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. Mr. Trump repeatedly mentioned having a good relationship with Mr. Kim, saying the North had “great potential,” and at one point offered to arrange a meeting between Mr. Kim and Mr. Lee."

Regarding the two Texas House Democrats at the gay nightclub club in Dallas. Interesting fact about Pride Month in Texas (at least in Austin). It is held in August, unlike elsewhere. Evidently the reason was, historically, it was easier to get out of town talent to come. Easier to get venues. Also students back at UT, so more volunteers. Also too, less chance of rain in August than in June.

My sister is a big K-Drama and KPop fan (I sent her a link to the video). When she comes to visit we watch her K-Dramas (“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is quite good and worth a watch), and she makes us Korean food.

BTW the way, while I was typing this non-comment, she wrote back to say that she hasn’t seen it, it’s gotten “High praise”, and there’s talk of a live-action version. I’m guessing she’ll see it pretty soon.
