And more recent estimations of the dead that include starvation, disease, exposure to the elements, place the total dead at very close to one million, 925,000.

... but their ads kick ass! The Dems could learn a thing or three.

Still, playing an asshole didn't require acting in his case. Not a stretch.

I consider the never Trumpers comparable to Russia in WW II. A useful ally in a war, but one you would never trust and who would stab you in the back if they ever had a chance. Their whole world view is different and their actions are too similar to the common enemy to effectively work with them after that enemy is defeated. Defeating Trump is the only thing Democrats have in common with people like Conway or Wilson. Once Trump is out of the way, they will resume attacks on every principle the Democratic Party has. Just like Russia with every democratic country after WW II.

I think there’s a scene in LINCOLN where Grant refuses to refer to the Southern traitors as “Confederate soldiers,” etc. It was probably a fictionalized moment but I think it conveyed how Americans like Grant/Lincoln viewed the war.

It is because of people like Rick Wilson that the drumpf tyranny has occurred.

the same is true for at least many of the rest of the Never Trumpers. they were all fine with relentlessly attacking, insulting, and character assassinating every Democrat since Carter. the Conservative Movement is a fascist cesspool who only has one goal in mind: power. and when domestic means didn't work, they looked for assistance abroad.

they are the swamp that needs to be drained if it's not already too late for that.

Ah, yes, "Rally Round the Flag" -- a song I learned from my younger brother's Civil War songs record.

I am reminded of an old print cartoon in which a teacher is saying (to kids who are all leaning forward, very interested): Will Sherman march to the sea? Will Lincoln save the nation? Tune in tomorrow for the next thrilling episode.

My dad was born in Oklahoma, but both of his parents were Old South (with a couple of collateral ancestors who were rebel soldiers). He used to make unflattering remarks about Yankees (the D-word was NOT allowed in our house -- neither was racist language). Once I asked him why he married a Yankee if he felt that way about them. He told me, "I reformed her!".

Dad used to say that we had ancestors who owned a plantation in Kentucky. I hope that was just a myth. As for Mom's family, they stayed in Wisconsin, where they'd been since 1820.

Had to laugh. Although Dad [1924-1981] claimed they used old gunk from the cabinet, that was a trick he and his friends pulled on Halloween when he was a boy. (He also got a butt full of rock salt the time a farmer caught him and his friends snitching watermelons.) I used to wonder why he punished us for our shenanigans when we were never even CLOSE to being the hellion he was as a boy.

Ha! He marched to the sea--just ran out of real estate to torch!
