I love the direct look at the camera at the end. I hear her saying "make it end".

People should go to jail if they shut down Direct File. That is literally destroying a national resource so someone else can profit. This is strip-mining Yellowstone level villainy.

When Kilmar Garcia is determined to have been killed, who goes to prison? 'Cosplayer' Nome? Border Czar 'Hobag? John Roberts?

BECKY's avatar

No one, what could we do about it, we don't have any control over that prison (will be the trump line). This has really been botherig me. Weren't all those people sent to prison without due process? Why is this only about Kilmar Garcia, getting him home will be barely a start.

Someone on Bluesky asked people for their trusted journalistic sources.

One reply: AP, Wired, Wonkette.

re: the court orders.

"Let us commence with the throwing of the victim under the bus"

- the maladministration

No way they backtrack now, so look for a scapegoat to emerge over the next week. Just like they did to answer that "who is running DOGE?" question.

Mary Ann's avatar

Wonkette deserves 100,000 paying customers, at least!! You are all great writers.

Ecuador on the list of 20 best places for expats? Hmm, sounds dubious to me. Friends of mine who do international house swaps had to cancel their couple of weeks in Ecuador because things just looked too dicey. Sure, it used to be one of the safer and more stable South American countries, but has the article writer seen the news recently?

fair_n_hite_451's avatar

Have been to 4 of the top 7 in the last year, with Portugal on the docket for next January.

Apart from Canada obviously needing to be at #1 ;-) Can certainly echo their comments on Spain and Costa Rica. Have not been to many places farther down the list. We seriously looked at Panama last year, but then decided we're not quite ready to bail just yet.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Move to Panama and wake up one morning to find you're now the 51st state.

Won't your face be red?

fair_n_hite_451's avatar

Yeah, Canada has the same stupid potential, but I don't think either of those is going to actually happen.

There would literally be rioting in the streets in either place over it...

Anonymous Dem in Axios says "we're taking the bait (re El Sal) for one hairdresser." 🤬🤬🤬"

"First they came for..." and then I stepped up bc I've read the fucking poem...FFS.

My dream last night was that there was a huge train accident right by us. Everyone needed tourniquets, and so I grabbed some floss and thought that would work. My husband said that wouldn't work, and he wanted to tear paper into strips and staple them together, and I said that you can't tie it tight enough.

We went back and forth and I kept thinking "we need to GET GOING" but in my head it wasn't to save people--it was so that I could be seen as saving people.

Perhaps you're being too hard on yourself?

Wahhh. These Tab sites require a subscription or sign-up: Forbes, 404Media, TPM, OCR, Axios.

Sister Artemis's avatar

1) sometimes you can just click/press outside a signup box, and the request will go away

b) for these kinds of signups, I have many gmail accounts in my various RIP cats' names - I use them for media outlets, for following disgusting politicians (those ones go to my most hated cat's email; she really was a little unpleasant tyrant), and so on. Very useful.

Cincinnatus's avatar

I try everything and it gets bothersome. I try incognito sometimes. I don't want to have various gmail accounts. But thanks for the suggestions. Really thought I was giving Becca a head's up, but I missed on that.

Rebecca Schoenkopf's avatar

404 media is free, please don't complain about needing to *sign up*. I don't subscribe to Forbes or Axios and I read them. TPM should be a gift link from Josh Marshall. Sorry about the OCR.

Cincinnatus's avatar

Sorry Editrix. I just checked and stand by my results. Also, too, the "Forbes" link I just noticed is to "Fortune."

As to TPM:

"Want to keep reading? Join TPM and get The Backchannel member newsletter along with unlimited access to all TPM articles and member features. JOIN TPM"

Ok, won't complain about signing up, but I'm not gonna.

Axios: "Axios AM. Axios articles are free, but with your email we can deliver the latest news directly to your inbox. Get the stories that matter in your inbox every morning from Mike Allen." I don't want to get the stories that matter every morning.

As I was clicking my mouse button to come here, I was thinking.....please, please...have something cute and furry this morning! And you did! Bless you. I need cute and furry to deal with The Emperor Deej telling other countries what their laws should be, and a government whish is disappearing people in THIS country, whilst moaning about those being arrested in other countries, and making sure people can't afford their medication, and no more file for free, and all the other BS happening every single day until I want to crawl in a hole for the rest of my remaining days.

But, furry. Thanks.
