Chili makins procured. Gonna ride out the end of this noreaster in meaty, oniony, tomatoey, cuminy goodness. Housemate is making cornbread to match too.
I’ve started on my postcards to swing state voters! I have 100 to write, so I’m doing about 25-30 a day. More than that, and my handwriting will deteriorate to the point Linus would have more legible paw writing.
Maybe you should include Linus’s paw prints on each postcard, so that you don’t have to write so much, and the recipients will be blessed with Linus souvenirs!
I live in the Chicago area, and I can tell you that even though ICE abductions aren't as loud and splashy as they were when Cruella De Vil was running the show (the bitch even turned up in my exurb), they're still happening. And the fucking immigration courts here are a joke. To call them kangaroo courts would insult kangaroos. Today one of the Chicago papers (we still have two, even though they're in sad shape) looked at what a travesty it's turned into:
Pray for Wisconsin. Francesca Hong is organizing like crazy to support democratic candidates in state races including David Crowley for governor but the billionaires are shoveling dark money at Tom Tiffany's campaign. It's a sign they think they can pick up the governor's seat.
I live in a college town, and the amount of furniture waste here is just unacceptable. We need something like Furniture Queen so bad. When I was a student, I was able to get a couch, a bed, some tables and chairs, and a few other useful things just by driving around and seeing what people placed near (not in) dumpsters. But so much of it gets hauled away before people in need can pick up some stuff.
My Nice Time is we're going to a fancypants dinner tonight, complete with tux. We recently joined a group (Chaîne des Rôtisseurs) that does fancy dinners every couple months.
A nice time, small, but hoping Noma L. also experienced--namely, a few drops of moisture from the sky, I believe it's called RAIN! Just a few minutes, but proof IT CAN HAPPEN IN DALLASS!! Thank you.
I need a good youtube video or something on how to repaint furniture. I have a shelf and a plant stand that I would dearly love to repaint. But I have no skills.
make an outdoor place (or spot in a garage or basement) because it's messy
put down newspapers or something to catch all the dust and drips
remove hardware (you can clean that up in a separate process)
sand things smooth with fine grit sandpaper - you don't have to get all the previous finish off, just make it smooth and with a little "tooth" so that the new paint adheres
wipe it down with a barely damp cloth to remove sanding dust
Apply paint by brush or spray - be strategic, so you don't have to turn the piece around a million times
It's better to do two or three thin layers than glopping it on thick, because you'll get drips and weird slumpy places in any cracks and crevices.
Let it dry in a fairly dust and bug free area or you'll get both stuck on the paint before it dries.
Let it dry totally. Many a decent paint job has been ruined by rushing to enjoy the piece before it's ready.
Sure you have skills! If surfaces already painted, sand lightly, get some primer, slap it on nicely. Let it dry, primer usually doesn't take long. Then sand any weird lumps, but LIGHTLY. Then paint. (They sell super-cheap bristle brushes of various sizes, but be prepared to pull some bristles off the surface; after the first couple of passes that usually stops.) Otherwise follow the instructions on the products!!! If you want to spray instead (brush is more satisfying and far less messy), do it outside, like on an old shower curtain and not when it's windy.
I generally use water-based paint because cleanup is less toxic, but it will remain sticky longer--I wouldn't put heavy books on a latex-painted surface for three weeks at least, longer if the humidity is high. In this case, a spray paint on the top of the shelves can work better.
But it's all fixable no matter what! If you want two-tone or stenciled, takes longer, but also possible. And again fixable! HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK!
I posted about this yesterday, but since it constitutes a Nice Time, I'll post about it again. Now, it’s time to read at the bar.

I suspect that might actually be more effective:
“Hi, [Name]!
Please vote!
Love, Linus
{{Linus’ big paw print}}
🤣
"Bow Wow Now!"
Preach, Rep. Ramirez.

In my town, we have a bulk pick up every five weeks.
One group (and I can’t remember its name) goes through and picks up some really nice furniture, household items and sometimes kids toys.
They take them to a warehouse here. It benefits a local woman’s shelter.
when a woman gets her own place and can leave the shelter she can go shopping there for free.
That's how my old uni town is. "Moving Day" is when the dumpster divers go out in force and get all kinds of stuff.
Furniture, gaming systems, piles of clothing and linens with tags still on them, etc.
No, YouTube, I will not be heading down a flag-sewing how-to video rabbit hole today, thank you.
I had a good time with Nice Times this morning.
OT.
Go Steelers.

In a prior life, a couple I knew:
Him: Honey, where's my tux?
Her: In the medicine cabinet.
Him: ? 💡
fancypants??
Maybe Rufus needs a bit of a time-out for a while.
I sent this story to ziggy this week. I never heard back, perhaps it was unworthy. I still think you'll like it: https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/scientists-heard-a-knock-at-the-door-it-was-a-pelican-in-need-of-help/
This is wonderful.
It’s really important if you do catch and release fishing to take the fishing line and the hooks with you, don’t just drop them on the ground.
The hooks get embedded and the fishing line gets tangled around their feet their wings or their neck, sometimes causing amputations of a leg.
Also the fishing weights tend to be lead, and it poisons the birds if they ingest them. be kind pick up after yourself folks.
I stopped using lead weights years ago, and discovered I never really needed them anyway.
Thank you that helps a lot!

Thanks, sister.
Also, I finished my keyboard parts for a song, and the guitarist, at least, likes them. Now for a verdict from the other two guys.

If there was a Super Badass Hall of Fame, Betty White would be in it.

There's thousands of them out there. If you have no skillz, spray cans will be your friend.
that's the problem, isn't it? which of the thousands are worth sitting through?
This is typically why I crowd source ideas from the Wonketariat, to help me narrow down the plethora of Advice from the InterWebs.
Believe it or not there will likely be some from professional type stores such as Lowe's and Home Despot.
Exactly. I can't sift through all the different videos and figure out which are good and which are AI slop or something.
Use newspaper below. Repainting is fun, and changes everything around it, give it go!
Nice Time? Err I guess. I got a jerb, but that means I'll have to work!
Oh the pain... the pain...
Congrats, sucker! 🍭
That is just simply stupendous!
Now I'm going to look forward to toasting warmly your first paycheck, comrade. WELL damned done!
Hooray!!!

Have a Linus!

And the paycheck!!!
I like money. Helps keep a roof over yer head!
Congrats!! Do you have to work on weekends?
Probably, I'll be onboarding this coming week.
Welp that sucks, but enjoy the rest of your Sunday! 😬
