It’s true. I watched the Reagan-Mondale debate and kept thinking, I hate this fucking bastard so much that I can’t reconcile liking him. Goddamn it. Then Walter’s campaign tried to turn him into Hubert Humphrey, the geniuses. Like that worked so well in ‘68.
“I know! Let’s transform him into the guy Nixon beat!”“The coke’s getting way ahead of you, man.”
as a 30th district voter sure would like to see a solid D candidate emerge … hate to see or hear adam, but i support him 100% bc i know where he stands … sure wish he wasn’t so ambitious … i’m rather risk averse in today’s political landscape …
Yeah--watching him as a kid, I remember my parents telling me he was awful but I saw him as a nice, grandfatherly fellow--and even clips today can show that. He was hard to attack, and Dems had a difficult time with it.
It also happened to be a period when demographics were working perfectly for Republicans--winning the South while not yet losing their strength in the North--and anyone elected in 1980 would benefit from perfect timing for re-election. But he was a formidable politician, the best Republicans came up with since Ike.
Wow, you missed it. Ben Savage played the same role (with Topanga) as the dad in the "Girl Meets World" sequel, by which time he was (cast as) the father of a tween-aged girl, who (so implausibly that it was a running joke) was also his daughter's teacher.
Somehow, I missed out on "Boy Meets World" when it was originally released, but I watched the HELL out of "Girl Meets World". I enjoyed the first season (which was kind of what you would expect from my description), but turned increasingly profound in season 2, beginning with "Girl Meets Gravity", that is bookended by a paraphrase from "Our Town". My absolute favorite was "Girl Meets the Great Lady of New York", where the class is assigned to investigate their heritage, and one student discovers that his grandfather was the only family member to survive the second world war in Denmark - the family was Jewish, and they gave the infant grandfather to a Christian family, with forged documents, before they were all deported and executed. There was no paper trail to his birth family (because if the Nazis had found it, they would have taken the infant as well). No one had known. It was amazing.
If Ben Savage was awake for "Girl Meets the Great Lady of New York", I'd vote for him.
If only Rod Blagojevich hadn't bragged about using Obama's open Senate seat for a "fucking golden ticket" over a tapped phone line, it might have happened.
Sitting around all day listening to Arlen Specter tell stories about how great Arlen Specter is, and if only more people listened to Arlen Specter we wouldn't be in this mess (according to Arlen Specter) is not what I believe is any qualification for higher office.
he was a hardline D until he married serious money (nancy) … funny how that works …

Oh, sure, he's Ben Savage but is he still Savage?
That should be on a billboard in WEHO. Ann does not rank highly in the WEHO world, possibly because she's gratuitously mean.

But Illinois governors gotta Illinois govern.
Yeah, but he was anything but benign.
