Thanks to conservation efforts by the Highpointers Club and others, they dropped those plans so KY still has its highest mountain. The Bechtel Summit Reserve near Beckley, WV, which is the premiere eastern Scouting America base is also largely on reclaimed strip mining property. National Jamborees are held there and the 2019 World Scout Jamboree was held there.
