The Discharge Petition for HR82 has gone live. With 326 cosponsors, and 218 signatures needed asap, I clicked on it hopefully to discover it had…(call your Rep’s office and remind them to sign if you would like to see this go to the floor for a vote).
I apologize for not having explained. I have posted about that before recently, so I didn't want to be boring and repetitive.
HR82 and S597, if passed, repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset.
The WEP reduces SSA by up to almost $600 a month for people who qualified for SSA, but who also have a pension coming in that is self-funded, or for some other reason did not come from wages that contributed to social security.
The GPO cuts survivor benefits by up to 2/3's for people whose spouse qualified them for survivor benefits and then passed away when the surviving spouse is eligible for a pension as explained above.
When I posted that this morning, there were seven signatures on the discharge petition. There are 119 now, at the end of the first day, which is very encouraging. Ninety-nine to go to bring it to a floor vote.

The Focus Is Now on Trump.” And here’s a sentence from the third paragraph: “Mr. Trump’s rambling speeches, sometimes incoherent statements and extreme outbursts have raised questions about his own cognitive health and, according to polls, stimulated doubts among a majority of voters.” The emphasis in the side-by-side article about Harris is the far more normal political question of whether she can differentiate her positions from those of President Biden. Yup, the MSM, in the bag for Trump.

Fingers crossed. I'm not retired yet, so haven't felt the pain, but I've been watching this legislation for more than twenty years.
Today is the closest they've come to repealing it.
