What is equally as cool as the leg shot is watching the owl turn it's head almost 180 degrees. With the placement of it's eyes and that neck swivel it has a 360 degree field of vision without turning it's body, just it's neck.
One of my favourite day care stories comes from my BFF who worked in day care for years (Unionized! The only unionized day care in Portland!) first as a right out of college, "I'll take any job" job and then intentionally as a way to fund her grad school while continuing to get exp working with kids (since she was going to be doing health care for kids).
On to the story. It is brief (tee hee): Child shows up late with a clearly frazzled parent. Child is wearing eight (8!) pairs of underwear, each pulled up over the another, three pairs of socks (same), galoshes, a rain hat, and a sweatshirt referencing a loving grandma. That's it. No shirt and no pants, in case you missed those details. Did I mention that it's summer in this story? It is.
Parent hands over a bag to BFF. She glances inside and sees a normal outfit of human clothing. Frazzled parent says, "I'm so sorry, but if you can get her to change into regular clothes at some point, I would really appreciate it."
And that's it. The story of what happened earlier in the morning is entirely implied and entirely hilarious.
The son of a friend of mine was told to put on his socks so I watched, with some amusement, when he took the command literally and put on all his socks - 6 or 7 pairs. When his shoes wouldn’t fit, his mother took them all off one by one as her son quietly chuckled. He’s now a pediatrician, and a great one from what I hear from his mom.
I unwittingly sent my daughter to nursery school in a little sailor dress sans panties. When I got to my job, I got a call from one of the teachers and she was dying laughing.
There were several times in my girls' childhood when I told them if they didn't take off their pajamas and put on clothes, I'd take them to school that way.
Thanks for the link, Rebecca. Not nearly enough people who lived through the 2000 election understand how thoroughly Nader OWNS the destruction of this country, and most who were not yet sentient— my own daughter excepted — have no idea what a fucking villain this sanctimonious piece of shit is. And he had the fucking nerve to whine yesterday about how it’s Hillary’s fault Trump got elected. Yes, he should go FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK himself.
Thanks for tossing in that tab on The Bear. A nice diversion that is kind of needed today. BTW, I think you should re-watch that last episode, it was a lot more than "blah, blash."
One of the biggest pop sensations in Japan in recent years is Ado. She originally posted covers of anime themes and other songs on the Japanese video site Niconico, but decided to move on to original music. The day before she turned 18 in 2020 she released her debut single "Usseewa," with lyrics from the perspective of someone disenchanted with Japanese society and its demands. It became a huge hit. The promo video has 335 million views on YouTube to date.
But unlike pretty much every other big star you don't see her face everywhere. Or at all. From the start Ado has kept her face hidden. This has even included during live shows. And it's even extending to meeting her fans. In October she'll be holding a handshake event, where 1000 lucky fans will get to shake her hand. Which to me is weird enough. But since it's Ado it's even weirder because she will be doing so from inside an opaque box. You'll get to shake her hand, but you won't see her face.
I can't imagine her keeping her face hidden would have lasted this long on this side of the Pacific. The celeb press would have been working their butts off trying to get a picture.
This season of The Bear wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as the first two and some people are being Not Normal about it, probably because the world is on fire and democracy is crumbling and sometimes that can make small disappointments feel much bigger than they really are.
Also Ed Zitron has a very good podcast called "Better Offline" in which he splains why the internet and technology suck so much in the 21st century.
This article is excellent. I remember I was in my early twenties when the Nixon interview took place, and I was shocked when he said, "When the president does it, it's not illegal."
"I’d call it the Supreme Court Legitimacy Restoration Act..."
I'm glad someone else is using that term, "legitimacy." If we're gonna unfuck this mess, we REALLY need to harp on the fact that this is an illegitimate Court, and has been since 2017. Like, say it EVERY FUCKING TIME the subject of the Supreme Court comes up.
Folks, that's our basis for undoing this shit. The Supreme Court has been illegitimate since January 3 2017, when the 114th Congress adjourned without taking their Constitutionally-mandated action on a prospective Supreme Court justice who had been duly nominated by the President.
It will be easier to sell Court Reform if the Supreme Court is seen as not only dysfunctional, corrupt and power-hungry, but illegitimate as well. More importantly, if the Court is illegitimate, then so are their actions and decisions. It is justification for declaring all acts of the court null and void until they can be reviewed by a reformed Court.
Y'all are talking about how we ought to play hardball like Republicans, but fret about how we'd just end up helping them destroy public support of our system? HERE IT IS. We can take a page out of their book by constantly saying something at every opportunity, until it becomes accepted wisdom, and do it in service of RESTORING legitimacy.
I am firmly in camp "Do ALL Of The Things To Unfuck America, Joe!" Expand the court! Criminalize the Greg Abbotts! Declare all decisions by SC justices who are fuckheaded turdbrains illegitimate! Free Willy!
Joe can (and should) also pardon himself, Hunter, Jill, Kamala, his entire administration, Hillary, Obama, Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, and various hangers-on, for any and all “acts” that the Trumphumpers may want to try them for in the future.
Whar tab for Epstien/ Trump unsealed court thingy? I hear it's bonkers and Trump is a pedo, right there in the transcript? Have not had time to read it.

Nice gams!
I love owls, and owl legs are sooooooo long. Even though I know that, it's still always a surprise to see them. What a happy gif this morning.

What a hoot Martini!
There's an owl residing at one end of the alley behind my house, apparently not a Marilyn Monroe fan, or maybe lacks confidence in her legs...
Just hell on the small mammals though
"Ooh, owl have a little cool air up my skirt!"
Cue ZZ Top's "Legs".
You've prompted me to update the post with a picture of owl legs. They are longer than you might think!
Owls have some long, substantial pins on them. They are SUCH fascinating creatures.
People often mistake them for flying when actually they are just running with their wings outstretched. Their legs are huge.
Martini you have outdone yourself! What a great clip!
Seven Year Itch Owl is the first thing I thought. Although in my shallow evaluation Marilyn did it a lot better...
Guaranteed to turn heads.
Marilyn MunrOwl.
I vote booty shorts. They say "Yeah I knew that the miniskirt wouldn't hold, and am OK with that."

If all of your products are locked up, and there is no one there to unlock them, you are not running a store.
You are running a retail museum.

And now it's reality.
Replied in the wrong place, sorry!
OT but how do you get to edit substack comments??
The three dots to the lower right of your comment. It gives the "report" for other people's comments, the "edit" for your own.

One of the few local news organizations here released an important poll regarding President Biden. I hope he follows the results.

The oligarchs have successfully seized control of our country. The only recourse is expanding the supreme court.
Or passing the Oligarch Reduction Act.
Not happy about all the new "non-commenters" here on my beloved Wonkette that are planting all the gentle anti-Biden "posts."

(Maybe the non-comments are better in the original Russian.)

Damn right I'm paranoid!
