The Week In Garbage Men: Disney Gets Trolled By Pizzagate Idiots, Fires James Gunn

Rape advocate Mike Cernovich is OUTRAGED!

If you were to go by a chunk of chatter on Twitter regarding Disney's firing of director James Gunn from the Guardians of The Galaxy franchise over some bad tweets from 10 years ago, you might be inclined to believe that this was the result of the legendary "outrage machine" -- operated by "SJWs" in the name of "PC Culture."

Except SURPRISE! It was not. In fact, the charge to get Gunn fired was led entirely by the alt-right trolls who regularly cry about how political correctness is the reason no one thinks their jokes are funny.

While Gunn had been called out for the tasteless jokes by GLAAD and The Mary Sue back in 2012, he apologized, changed his ways and everyone moved on. Which is exactly how things should be. If someone points out to you that you have spinach in your teeth, you remove it. Duh.

In response to his firing, Gunn apologized again:

My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative. I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don't reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.

Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse. To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies. Love to all.

This recent episode, however, was some seriously disingenuous bullshit originating with none other than rape advocate and pizzagate idiot "Weird" Mike Cernovich and his buddy Jack Posobiec -- who have some other priorities going on.

Rather than a sincere expression of moral outrage or upset, the push for Gunn to be fired for things he has already apologized for and stopped doing is part of a right-wing troll campaign against liberal Hollywood celebrities. Because Cernovich is not actually smart enough to argue for the things he wants politically, he has decided that the best way to "own the libs" in a way that makes him look morally righteous is by hysterically insisting that we are all pedophiles.

Which is, of course, a very interesting angle to take when one has repeatedly said horrific things about rape, and has in fact been charged with rape himself -- g etting it reduced to battery by hiring a private investigator to intimidate a witness into recanting her story.

Of course, Cernovich's trolling habits have less to do with any sincere adherence to a political ideology so much as they have to do with the way they make him feel like a very important person.

In a statement to The Wrap, Cernovich straight up admitted that what he got out of this was causing chaos:

"The Harvey Weinstein case showed us that Hollywood is rotten to the core. We are continuing our investigation into the conduct and behavior of members of the Hollywood elite," he said.

"I enjoy just the raw human visceral reaction of jumping into the arena and just swinging the hammer and seeing what is left over afterwards," he said. "Twitter is just modern-day gladiatorial combat."

He craves respect and adoration. He pathetically calls himself "journalist Mike Cernovich," in the third person on the regular and constantly brags about how fabulously important he is. It's the saddest thing.

Hardest eye roll ever. Although yes, Mike Cernovich should be banned from Twitter, given his tendency towards targeted harassment.

Of course, Cernovich and his troll army don't plan to stop at getting Gunn fired, and have set their sights on several other outspoken Hollywood celebrities, including Michael Ian Black -- the very handsome and smart comedian who took him right the fuck down earlier this morning.

By capitulating to Cernovich's demands and firing Gunn, Disney is doing more harm than good. They are falling for a disingenuous troll who is clearly exploiting what he imagines "outrage culture" is for his own ends. Giving him that power causes a lot more damage than What they should do is hire him back and apologize for getting fooled like that.
