We all suspect there IS a plan on who will be forced to work the fields: Arrest all the undocumented immigrants, throw them in jail, and make them work as slaves.
Anyone tempted to visit the Clown Motel, be advised I'm a mere two hours southwest of Tonopah. About the same distance to Tehachapi, if you're into Little Feat:
I dont necessarily agree that Trump chickens out. I still say it’s all a scam where his henchmen tell him to “sell” the tariffs to the media and public so they can manipulate the market.
However, the fact that they are trying to make it look legit by saying “oh they cut a deal” causes Trump to look like a coward who backs down.
It also means that regardless of why he backs down, the major players aren’t buying the shtick anymore. They know it bs. Which is why you only saw a 2% drop over Memorial Day weekend after his 50% nonsense. A month ago it would have dropped at least 10%.
Counterpoint: The orange shitgibbon is so far gone into pudding brain territory he does not even remember what he said yesterday about the tariffs, so he's confused when people say he backed down.
Oh I agree with that too. Like i said, his henchmen set the plan up and tell Trump to say what they want “sell it”. He doesn’t remember that anymore than he does selling those crappy watches. He just gets his cut.
Seriously getting tired of the conversation around visas for farm workers. As the guardian article said, they just want a system that allows oppression. Most farms couldn't stay in business if they didn't have access to cheap labor. But those same farmers don't want the culture change that comes with the labor. So they're shooting themselves in the foot to create a system that will treat migrant workers like livestock.
Look - people don't give two shits about a "king". I respect whoever put together that protest but show some spine. Call it NO FASCISTS or NO MORE HITLERS or NO WHITE SUPREMACISTS.
Speak for yourself - I've been talking about "No kings" since the Nixon days, and I feel even more adamant about it now. Doesn't mean we can't ALSO speak to No Fascists etc, (and we should!) but the "no kings" thing resonates deeply for a lot of us.
Not everyone is familiar with what fascism is. Not everyone can get behind the comparison to Hitler. But "no kings?" That one is simple, to the point, and hearkens back to US history lessons even for the less-than-deeply-educated.
You weren't respectful. You were dismissive and woefully narrow in your apparent views. Good luck with that
Note: i don't object to anyone using the fascist label, or pointing out the similarities to Hitler and his minions. I've done it myself many, many times. However, while “No kings” may not resonate with you, it's arrogant to assume it doesn't work for others. And ultimately we're all saying we do not, WILL not submit willingly to authoritarianism.
I lived in Nye County for about 7 years. Didn't think I could ever afford to come back home to California. I did it, but I'll be in debt the rest of my life. Totally worth it.
As we know all too well, this timeline is crowded (overcrowded, some might say) with flat earthers, anti-vaxxers, young earth creationists, Bible literalists, etc. These people are impervious to facts and reason. As we know all too well.
You know who else knew this? St. Augustine of Hippo, a Christian scholar from the 4th century. He wrote a book with the bait-and-switch title of "The Literal Meaning of Genesis", where he actually refutes the Bible literalists' claim that the world was created in six 24-hour days. And he applies a righteous smackdown as well. Check this out.
"Usually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the heavens, and the other elements of the world, about the motion and orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions, about the predictable eclipses of the sun and moon, the cycles of the years and the seasons, about the kinds of animals, shrubs, stones, and so forth, and this knowledge he holds to as being certain from reason and experience. Now, it is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking nonsense on these topics; and we should take all means to prevent such an embarrassing situation, in which people show up vast ignorance in a Christian and laugh it to scorn. The shame is not so much that an ignorant individual is derided, but that people outside the household of faith think our sacred writers held such opinions, and, to the great loss of those for whose salvation we toil, the writers of our Scripture are criticized and rejected as unlearned men. If they find a Christian mistaken in a field which they themselves know well and hear him maintaining his foolish opinions about our books, how are they going to believe those books in matters concerning the resurrection of the dead, the hope of eternal life, and the kingdom of heaven, when they think their pages are full of falsehoods on facts which they themselves have learnt from experience and the light of reason? Reckless and incompetent expounders of Holy Scripture bring untold trouble and sorrow on their wiser brethren when they are caught in one of their mischievous false opinions and are taken to task by those who are not bound by the authority of our sacred books. For then, to defend their utterly foolish and obviously untrue statements, they will try to call upon Holy Scripture for proof and even recite from memory many passages which they think support their position, although they understand neither what they say nor the things about which they make assertion [quoting 1 Tim 1:7].
To quote Anna and the King: "Whether it took six days or six million years, it's still a miracle."
(Turns out it was almost instant to make the light and dark matter that comprises the universe, but the rest of it had to cook for about 9 billion years before the Sun started to form.)
Peter Theil - he's the one who was thinking about vampirism, right? The magazine article really shows some woman milking a cow in a white dress?? After many a summer spent on my aunt's dairy farm (not milking cows - there were machines for that), I can't imagine even being AROUND a cow in a white dress.
Bought The Split (thank you) because, and also I like reading paper in hand.
Who will grow the food is a question that needs asking more and more of the GOP and the obscenely wealthy. When you get rid of all the brown people, poor people, Democrats, and kill off a good portion of the population through starvation and disease, who's gonna grow YOUR food?
No one mentions that cows get little nuggets of dried shit in the ends of their tails, and when they flick their tails around while you're hand-milking them, you can get hit, and it's like getting slapped with a cat-o-nine-tails.
I noticed that in the CNN article about TACO Trump could not remember what he had reduced his China tariffs to, responding to the question with it was 145%, then 100%, then "some other number". He flip flops so much, just pulling numbers out of his ass, that he can't remember what he said yesterday. Or sometimes even 5 minutes earlier. None of his tariffs are based on economic principles, just what Trump thinks are negotiating tricks. Tricks that simply annoy the other side and makes negotiating more difficult because the other side considers your starting position ridiculous and not worth a response other than fuck you and your unserious position.

Beautiful babies. An overhead shot from a distance is a freat way to enjoy them!

I always wondered about that. But there are bears in Florida.
Florida bears. Says it all.

It’s hilarious that anyone thinks the problems at Tesla can be solved by Elon spending more time at the company.
The only way Musk can improve Tesla is by disappearing forever.
