They are “unborn personhoods” for the duration of their gestation, and the host body has fewer rights, apparently.

Obviously, since all rape receivers are hoors, if she were to report a rape to the police then she is just advertising that she is available for a party in the precinct.

I assume that you are on the west side of the state. I haven't been following the news closely but aren't your eastern counties also voting on joining Greater Idaho?

also kind of ridiculous is all these companies saying they'll pay for travel if an employee needs to go to another state. Like, do you really want to tell your bosses and coworkers that you got knocked up and are getting rid of it? that sure will make your future at work a whole lot easier, won't it. this is just a way for companies to pretend to care or be on the right side. (and how many of these companies have maternal/paternal leave and places to nurse - it's cheaper for them to have non-mother employees, after all.)

The root of most, if not all, opposition to abortion is a deep-seated fury over the idea of cis women having sex without consequences. Peel away the layers of any argument about babies or heartbeats and it's there: the big, festering how dare they.

This cannot be said often often enough. The recent WeHuntedTheMammoth.com thread about Dobbs (itself, not the thread about people being assholes in the wake of Dobbs) featured some douchebag named "Joaquin". He tried very hard to pretend he was the reasonable one who just wanted to know why baby killers love killing babies and all that.

Referencing the discussion of "worthy" applicants for an abortion, Juniper asks,

But as for the women who have abortions for other reasons besides those, if they are so “irresponsible,” why would you want such an irresponsible person raising a baby?

Joaquin immediately replies:

Because “f.uck them”. That’s why.

Sic, of course. His whole schtick is "take responsibility for your actions!" But his whole motivation is "Fuck women, that's why."

Time to dust off this pie chart:

Having said that, I do think there is some political advantage to bringing up rape and incest exceptions because it inevitably leads to republicans saying what they think about rape, and that never ends well for them.

Which is ironic because there probably is no woman on Earth who will fuck him.

You won’t have to worry about telling your boss because a lot of those companies are probably already buying your data from the health tracker app they encouraged you to download.

I get the snark, but this still felt like a gut punch because I will always remember the police officer who came to our home to speak with my mother (?) days after my teenage sister was raped. He leaned out of his chair towards my mother and stated with anger and annoyance "This kind of thing just doesn't happen here--This is a nice town that has never had a report of rape!" Thus the local PD closed the case with the old tropes of "She was friends with the wrong sort of people" and "She skipped school and smoked pot, basically, She was asking for it."

Years later, my sister was going to file a lawsuit against this law enforcement agency, but then the police chief made a phone call to our father (!?) that resulted in my sister being talked out of going forward with this plan.

Sorry for the triggered ramble--carry on!

yup, and there is definitely some sort of slippery slope with regards to the power structure in play in such situations. oh, now you want a raise, also too/!?!?!

It also shows that it's NOT about the life of the fetus. There's NOWHERE it's legal to kill a newborn because they were conceived by rape or incest - in fact, it's not legal to kill them under ANY circumstances.

If fetuses really are alive, why is it acceptable to kill them for ANY reason? The "rape and incest" exceptions prove that yes, it IS about punishing sex.

Oh, these men have weird ideas about women. Yes, they save their firiest hate for women that will have sex out of wedlock with other men, but deny them. But they also hate women who WILL have sex with them, because that makes them Hoores.

Here's a half dozen examples from Texas where hospital or clinic's legal teams won't even allow the patient to be counseled about seeking an abortion for a non-viable pregnancy.
