Track 61 sounds like a brand of Palin home brew.

I've beeen down there - the whole hotel is built on pilings, supported in the air over railroad tracks. <a href="http:\/\/desertedplaces.blogspot.com\/2012\/09\/the-secret-train-platform-under-waldorf.html" target="_blank">FDR's rail car is still down there</a> ; sadly, it's a derelict wreck. I think it's still property of the MTA. The elevator from the platform is actually a car elevator, and FDR's limo would be driven from the train and taken up to street level. Mitt would have loved being president!

I'm sure the "restoration" will include installing free Wi-Fi in every room.

The other 60 were undrinkable, but there's always hope.

For those who want to see it, there's a great tour. The underground rail line leads straight to the car elevator, so Roosevelt could get in the car before it was taken off the train, and then it was driven straight into the elevator, which went up to the presidential suite. This is why presidents often still stay at the Waldorf: an extra safety exit. Amusingly, the limos of the 1930s were smaller than an SUV; a Cadillac Escalate would not fit in it. <a href="http://docentour.com/gct/" target="_blank">" rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://docentour.com/gct/">http://docentour.com/gct/</a>
