There are a lot of reasons, but the most important is simple: fear. Trump supporters don't read news. They don't know what's actually going on in the world. They get all their ideas from Youtube comments and Fox News, an outright propaganda channel founded specifically to lie to get Republicans elected, and they have been trained that critical thinking is _evil_. Not just trained not to do it, trained that if you ask questions or listen to other news sources you're a traitor to your tribe.
And all they hear on that channel is fear. Be afraid of immigrants, they're coming to kill you and eat your pets. Be afraid of climate scientists, they're a liberal conspiracy to raise fuel prices. Be afraid of schools, they want to change your son into a girl and paint his hair pink. Be afraid of trans people. Be afraid of brown people. Be afraid of black people. Be afraid of scientists, of pizza restaurants, of law and order, of politicians, of government, of everything.
They are taught to fear, until they run crying for a big strong daddy figure to protect them.
Then they're taught to fear their actual protectors - doctors, FEMA, courts - so they don't accidentally stop being afraid.

I believe girls and young women need to learn self defense. I was 8 or 9 when a big boy (11) used to hide in grass nesr the chain link school fence and beat me up. He was shocked, left me alone.
