Marini Glambassador, please consider a Neil the Seal hed gif! He's back for the sixth year in the little village in Tasmania that he's adopted. Marine mammal folks have tried to intervene over the years, even relocating him far enough away that he wouldn't come back. They chose poorly. https://youtube.com/shorts/2qYOt16pDDY?si=V-fS0nxl8jgsjPv_

You are correct. Biltmore Forest is an incorperated town just south of Asheville. It is the home of the immense Biltmore Estate and is bordered by the Blueridge Parkway, and is very upscale. The Biltmore Estate, a relic of the gilded age and robber barons does have a good bit of forested land on the property so there would be some habitat for the hose loving bear.

Crafty bears. That bear looks like yer Toots on her morning stupid human tricks lately. If there’s a sprinkler going, I’m in it.

It is very cool and equally terrifying to have a bear in your backyard helping himself to the water hose....

Schmannity's avatar

It puts the picnic in the basket or it gets the hose again.

Sprinklers: Cooling off Black bears and human kiddos since whenever the hell they were invinted!

ElderlyLoudCatWomyn's avatar

From Google: "The first automatic fire sprinkler system was patented in the United States by Philip W. Pratt in 1872"

Wasn't this what sprinklers and hoses were invented for? To cool off bears?

Note the missed attempts at "Maggot Hagerman," and the last sentence non-sequitur. Also ignored Haberman's co-author:

Presidential toot, Jun 27, 2026, 9:22 PM: "Based on a very quick and boring briefing concerning the Magot Hagerman book about me, it is mostly made up, Fake News, largely fiction, as have been most of the things she has written about me for so many years. She is a third rate writer and intellect, who has made a first rate income because of your favorite President, ME. She was wrong about me on the Elections, although she knew I was going to win, BIG! She was wrong about me on the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and she was wrong about me on just about everything else. But she continues to spew out garbage, and people continue to buy it. REMEMBER, I WON THE ELECTION, BIG - ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, THE POPULAR VOTE, 86% of the Counties…And they don’t have the audio tapes that they imply they have. Just another Margot Con Job! And Iran will never have a Nuclear Weapon!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

If you ever wondered if the Vanderbilts were insanely rich: here you go.

"The Vanderbilt's Biltmore House is the largest private home ever built in North America. It has 250 rooms, totaling over 175,000 square feet! That's more than 4 acres of floor space! It has 65 fireplaces! The fourth floor contains 21 servant rooms, and the basement has a swimming pool, bowling alley, kitchen, scullery, laundry, workshops, and other service rooms."

Biltmore Estate is amazing. And over the top. I took my niece and two friends for the full tour, main house, grounds, stable, horseback rides We skipped the complimentary wine tasting at the winery, they were 13-14 - this was to celebrate their middle school graduation ;) Be prepared for a lot of stairs!

Outdoors, the gardens and conservatory are something else. There's a tiny mall which IIRC was a conversion of the servant's village - yes VILLAGE. (This was for outdoor workers. A working blacksmith - you can request custom jewelry (not gold or silver) and watch him make it on the spot,

Yes, you can say "This is why we can't have nice things," we're in another rober baron, gilded age right now. Everyone should have nice things in a perfect world. (Not like this!) To be clear, nobody inherently "deserves" things, but a well functioning society takes care of everyone. (UBI, Medicare for all, housing management, etc.)

Ok I'll respond to the fury I just generated but probably not until late or tomorrow morning.

If you are so inclined, one (non-Trumpian) way to celebrate America on its 250th is to explore Democracy's Library at the Internet Archive – https://archive.org/details/democracys-library

Hey Evan, some of us have all the FB blocked, because fuck that guy. It makes tabs considerably less amusing when half the content is blank space. Just sayin. If you could find a way to get that content across without zucking it, it would be appreciated.

I guess I didn't realize that the state fair thingy was an actual thing until I started seeing the pics roll through my socials. I just thought it was a concert? That got turned into a rally? Because no one wanted the stink of HIM on them?

Anyhoo, my favorite was the Fox News broadcast with an empty field of green behind them, as they tried to convince people the place was packed.

The quisling six may think it is OK to bribe US officials, but as far as I know the law against bribing foreign governments and functionaries is still on the books. Take those books and slap jarvanka upside the head real good. With charges, not the actual book itself. No promoting assaults here.

I went to a Pride Feminist Magic Market this weekend and had a most excellent time. So many excellent local vendors with all the cool folks out and about, and so many puppers to pet. My friends and I spent way too much money (because local vendors!) and drank pitchers of frozen margaritas to keep cool. Happy Pride y'all!

Cool shot of the Gaudi Dragon house. We were just in Barcelona and saw the Casa Batlló less than a week ago. Sadly didn’t get to go inside as it was too crowded and didn’t have time to wait.
