We're going to need a way to to equitably distribute what food, medicine, housing and education resources we will have.
As they did in Europe after world war II, the principles of democratic socialism, which are not incompatible with capitalism (see The greedy corporate types in any western European nation), will be necessary to keep the United States from becoming a nation knee deep in corpses.
And, no need to forgive my skepticism, I'm still keeping a wary eye on Schumer and Co. Welcoming primary winners into the tent is nice to see. But schumer's collegiality comes with his insistence on having his organization pay for things. And with that can easily come demands that these Democratic socialist candidates be less and less and less themselves.

What I have been telling everyone is that unless you are in district, you don’t actually have to do anything. There are plenty of races you can devote your time and energy to. You don’t have to help any particular candidate your disagree with, but it would also be great if everyone can try not to hurt any Dem candidate. We need every seat. We will all be better off, even if we have to work on voting out a bad Dem down the line, than if the MAGA/GOP retains control.
Sadists, grifters, religious zealots & the future-indicted (pleeeeze!!!!) have consumed one party, and bland corporatists have largely consumed the other. We desperately need the oxygen of a broader mix of people to start mixing it up & really working at the fed level, you know, actually earning their pensions, health care & perks --- all the things working Americans wish they had.
Democrats with ACTUAL "democratic" policies? How frightening!! Get a grip, NYT!! FDR, Truman, and Eisenhower supported those sorts of economic/ social policies!! (You know, all those presidents from "the Good Old Days".)

They are assuming Stevens voters will sit out the general. They are assuming pissed off independents will either sit out the general or vote for the party pissing them off. They are assuming in a midterm election the party of a historically unpopular president, with the economy imploding plus a deeply unpopular war will win big, because the Democrat running is scary to the status quo.
And Third Way is going to do what they can to make it do.

Eisenhower was arguably a progressive Republican.
I view Eisenhower as the singular member of the GOP I feel genuine regard and respect for.
