Yes, Gillibrand is too clever by half. What I meant was that there were three photos of Republican women who alleged they were groped by Franken. Where are the photos, the names, etc., of the other 5? I read about them, but never any statements from them. I'm not questioning that there were 8, just whether or not they were really groped.

Anonymous accusations should not cost a person their career. You said it all in your 2nd to last sentence. She's running for president. She had to clear the field, and she had Republican help in doing so. Which means she's beholden to them and Republican Lite, or at best, a blue dog which the Democratic party definitely does not need more of. Personally, I can't vote for someone who would resort to slimy Republican-type character assassination.

I've had my picture taken with 2 famous men. Both men put their arm around my waist. I felt it was a friendly gesture. The late Senator Paul Simon, and the late Yogi Berra. Christ, I should have gone to the press about it, I guess.

They were on PBS and everything. Me, personally, I'd been playing house of the rising sun to the tune of Amazing Grace because I love the song but preferred the HOTRS lyrics. It's wonderful how that works out sometimes .

I read Franken say he was not interested in being POTUS more than twice. I have a lot of respect for his intelligence, and took him at his word. I think people make shit up regarding politicians' motives all the time.

So clearly you don’t know how to read, darling.

Now go attack someone else: I’m done with you.

In academia this happens quite a lot. Want to get rid of some tenured fool who lucks into an outside offer? Praise him to the skies!

So weird. I live far away from CT, but donated to her campaigns because she was pushing hard for gun control.

Weird? Not at all. Quite typical.

Wow. So you're really okay with this?

Unfortunately this is typical hypocritical behavior.

Labor law is complicated, and laws do not always follow common sense. Therefore, it is completely reasonable to check with a lawyer to make sure that the law is being followed, as it is easier than one would think to break laws without even meaning to.

E.g. most states require employers to provide references for ex-employees, and can be weird around providing opinion on job performance. Most allow the employer to provide opinions, but may have laws around how factually-based those opinions are. So, referencing potentially illegal activity on the part of the employee that has not been legally confirmed as having happened could be construed as non-factually based opinion.

They def. screwed up on some stuff here (the nondisclosure agreement was almost certainly an attempt to limit their own liability), but it's really not in any way unusual, given concerns about labor law.

Bottom line is that nobody is entitled to a "soft transition" after being fired for cause. Labor laws make it a very fine line when it comes to what you can say about a former employee when someone calls for references. That's why most HR people will tell the managers to not say anything bad, just let it go.
