This Guy Is Why No One Believes Anti-Choicers When They Say It's Not About Controlling Women
So shocking. We can hardly believe it.
A Mississippi lawmaker was arrested this past weekend for punching his wife in the face, because he wanted to have sex with her, and she did not get undressed fast enough. Doug McLeod, a Mississippi state Representative since 2012, was reportedly also very drunk at the time.
McLeod's wife told police responding to her domestic violence call that he "just snapped." He punched her so hard that there was blood on their bed and floor. She ran to the room of another woman living with them and they locked themselves inside to call the police. It was at this point that Rep. McLeod started banging on the door and threatening to kill her dog.
McLeod was still drunk when the police arrived, holding a glass of liquor in his hand and "had slurred speech and walked slow in a zigzag pattern." They arrested him and charged him with misdemeanor domestic violence and then released him on a $1000 bond. Mississippi law, for the record, does not prohibit those with domestic violence misdemeanors from owning guns or ammunition, which I would imagine is not a very fun fact if you happen to be Doug McLeod's wife.
Via Biloxi Sun-Herald :
McLeod tried to explain to deputies that everything was OK, then said something else the deputies said they couldn't understand because of his slurred speech.
When deputies went inside, they saw two women standing at the top of a stairwell, both of whom the deputies described as frightened. McLeod's wife eventually came outside after deputies assured her they would keep her away from her husband.
The deputy said McLeod's wife was shaking and upset.
McLeod's wife said her husband was drunk and "just snapped," as he often does when under the influence of alcohol, the report said.
Remember a few months ago when Republicans and the NRA were all upset because the new Violence Against Women Act included a provision banning those with misdemeanor domestic violence charges from owning a gun? This is who they were fighting for. This is the kind of fella they wanted to make sure could still have a gun. You know, in case his next wife failed to get naked fast enough.
Several members of the Mississippi legislature have called for McLeod to resign, as well as Mississippi GOP Chairman Lucien Smith.
It should probably not surprise you to know that Doug McLeod was in fact a co-sponsor of the so-called "Heartbeat Bill" banning most abortions in Mississippi, a bill that Republicans have been claiming they support because they just love fetuses so much, and not because they love controlling women so much.
And shit like this is why we do not believe them. At all. For even a second. Certainly, if they really cared about "life," they would not be giving Doug McLeod the chance to do a post-birth abortion on his wife with a gun he can legally purchase in their state.

aw, did I hit a nerve? If my comments sound repetitive, it's because I'm bugged by the same things in different commenters. You're doing your best to justify domestic violence. And I'm not going to change my mind because you threw a tantrum.
