OT: My hometown Republican friend posted the following meme and she can't understand why I would think it's racist

Why would she need a verterinary appt? I thought she was human. (Yes, i am so terrible). I aplogize for the delay of reply. I was distracted by shiny things and sleeping.

Yeah, she and her pals are all "But Kanye sucks!" as if that explains everything.

And of course I'm the only one who sees racist connotations in this picture.

We hate Amanda Palmer because she's The Worst. Like it's harder for me to like Gaiman's newer work because I know for some unfathomable reason he married her.

So, I have a somewhat three degree separation from Amanda Palmer and so interesting insight to her.

The best man at my sister's wedding was her ex she wrote so eloquently about in Miss Me (she was 16, he wasn't), because my brother in law is from Lexington, which leads to my next layer.

In Harvard Square there is the Pit, this is the main entrance to the station and in the summer time is full of kids. The Pit Kids, tend to be from privileged backgrounds, like Lexington, and are "slumming" it so to speak but will go back to their comfortable homes as soon as it gets cold again. As a working class kid from Saugus, I hated them.

Amanda is in many ways the epitome of the Lexington Goth scene.

Which isn't to say these kids are without problems, very often the most insidious abuse hides in the "clean" places. From what I understand about her, she had some abandonment issues, some mental health issues but nothing too terrible.

My sister always said that she was perfectly nice, and the main thing was that she was 16 and their friend wasn't, which she and her husband would remind him off whenever he complained about something she did.

Personally I wish I had been aware of her music in high school because stuff like Girl Anachronism reminds me of myself then. She's got an amazing voice and artistic talent.

When she married Neil Gaiman my sister thought it was perfect.

So then my sister read about her poppy song about abortion, which is something that happened and got angry because said boyfriend was very upset when that happened. This may have been around the time she wrote some poetry for the Boston Bomber which was...oh Amanda...

It occurred to me while she is telling me this that said boyfriend isn't really worthy of sympathy. I mean he was 24 dating a 16 year old. I've only met him twice, once at the wedding where he was seriously hung over, and so don't have the bias of being his friend so I can say, he sounds like a creep. And so found myself more sympathetic to Amanda who may have been precocious, but he was the adult and failed to act as such.

So in the end, I find I rather like Amanda Palmer for her music and breaking the bonds of Lexington (most of those Pit Kids likely still live there and have disaffected kids of their own) being an artist and just roll my eyes when her privilege shows.

I won't deny that Kanye sucks, but yeah. They really can't pull the ignorance card on that comparison in this day & age

Artistry-wise, I am sorta "meh" on Kayne, but it's his attitude that annoys me. It's a different sort of entitlement and victimization that make him so freakin' whiny and insufferable.

That's both racist and just wrong; If Kanye is any animal it's the loyal Capybara, King of the Rats.

Isn't Lexington overrun by Supermutants? And on her being like you in highschool, that's a good part of why I hate her. I know I would have been an insufferable fan. Sort of a mirror you don't want to look in.
