not 100% identical, but a still ridiculous perception--back 20 years ago or so when there was a spate of incidents where infants in car seats on the front passenger side were being killed when the passenger side airbag went off in an accident, one of my then co-workers was quite upset about the idea that babies were "getting beheaded by airbags" on a daily basis. I literally stared him down for 2 full minutes, and then walked away saying 'you need to join us in this century'. And I knew exactly why and how he got the impression that it was some sort of epidemic happening 20 times a week, rather than 5 or 10 times total.
