It's amazing what early photographers could achieve with just optical illusions and double exposures.

Blackton was to early British cinema what Georges Méliès was to the French. Both saw film as an expressionistic medium as opposed to the realism of the Lumieres and other documentarians.

Oddly, last night I dreamed about cigars and I don't even smoke.

Fucking California . . . so, last year, CSU staff got a 5% raise (or at least those staff covered by my wife's union), with payments starting next month. CSU faculty are tired of their wages and benefits, and decided to strike, with walkouts starting this week (I think it's this week, not sure). To stop the walkouts, the state said to the faculty, "Hey, faculty, how about a 5% raise while we negotiate things, starting immediately?" To staff, they said "Hey, sorry about this, but we're going to hold off a little over a year on your 5% raise, because we were just kidding when we promised it to your union, but don't worry, you'll get it eventually! And if you can somehow convince your cash-strapped universities to cover the costs from February 2024 to May 2025, we'll even pay them back eventually! Pinky-swear!"

Alaska Airlines Changes ‘Proudly All Boeing’ Signs on Planes to ‘Oops! All Boeings’

By this morning, all Alaska jets had been scrubbed of the old slogan on the exterior of the cockpit and painted over with the new, fun, upbeat and honest take on the company’s fleet.

“’Oops! All Boeings’ isn’t just a tagline – it’s a commitment. Because, believe me, Airbus isn’t that much better if at all. We ain’t changing shit around here,” Minicucci said. “If you want real safety, buy your own private jet, motherfuckers—capiche?”

Seems like there are suspicions of suppressed exculpatory evidence, that was in police investigation records but not provided to the defense during discovery. And since his death sentence was overturned due to improper jury selection, he no longer qualifies for a public defender to address the suppressed evidence issues. So Innocence Project is examining the situation.

They do good work, and they don't win them all. From the article, I'm guessing that they're taking this up on the principle of fighting errors like excluding jurors who voiced opposition to the death penalty - the kinds of errors that can result in innocent, non-Scott Peterson convicts being unjustly locked-up.
