Truth. OK so listen. No silly music-related story to start our Wonkette Dance Party this week. Instead of that, before we shuffle our iTunes and post the first ten songs that come up at random, we think we'll just post a few of the gayest goddang dance videos we can think of (there are so many!), and then ask you to do the same in the comments, which are not allowed.
Yep. I think it may still be around. The first time I went there, I told my mother that I had to go back, because there was nothing more subversive in Texas than a honky-tonk full of gay men doing the two-step.
I think my mother was dismayed that I was doing exactly what she feared most--hanging out with other offbeat people rather than settling down with a nice Jewish doctor, like she wanted.
I do remember being a bit peeved when they first asked me to go, though. I got sniffy and said, what, because I'm from East Texas, you automatically presume I know how to two-step? That's like me automatically thinking you're a bunch of interior decorators.
The two-stepper only shrugged and said, "But I am an interior decorator, sweetie, so you do know how to two-step, right?"
As a Gay of A Certain Age in cold light of day (well' partly cloudy with chances of rain) I remember this being pounded into our then lithe bodies seemingly on an endless loop:
I lived in Houston for 16 months, where I survived being abducted at gunpoint by three beasts (I refuse to call them men), robbed, and gang raped. I survived and moved back to NYC, where it's safe to walk alone at night. I'm never returning to TX. I'm glad you're okay. Hugs.
It is TOO a gay song!!1! "Holly came from Miami F-L-A. Hitchhiked her way across the U-S-A. Plucked her eyebrows on the way, shaved her legs, and then he was a she" is about Holly Woodlawn. How much gayer can you get?
Thank you, Suttree. I'm fine; have been fine for a long time. If I hadn't had enough reason after that to leave Houston (it was 1976; I only went there when my best friend fell in love and he had split!), the next day the KKK showed up at my door and offered to find the guys!
Interesting, because someone who says they're Anonymous seems to be taking a keen interest in all of this. Would it be irresponsible to speculate?

Weird Al's Horoscope song can work in a lot of playlists.

And then we could slow dance to 'One More Minute'!!!!
Israel K died young. The video includes scenes from his funeral and scattering of his ashes at sea.

I'm on a Broadway kick these days and have been repeating this one from "In the Heights". It's full of life and has a catchy beat.

I hope you don't mean that she turns them inside out and wears them for another day.

This was played every night in the gay bars I used to go. I am an old.https://www.youtube.com/wat...
They always doubled up on "Poor pussy, poor pussy cat." line.

ETA: I just realized this had to be snark.

I'm a straight guy, and I gotta say, gay dance clubs have really good taste in music.
