Your "hate to give out cookies" comment is just another indication of the disparity of responsibility between the left and the right sides of the political spectrum.

The right gets a pat on the head for saying "woah, maybe we SHOULDN'T be suggesting we murder 500,000 Americans".

Well, damn.

I told you all about my day, and then fell asleep before I could hit post. So here was yesterday, but I will say before I paste the rest that today is wide open, and the only thing I have planned is going out to an ancient raspberry bed And trying to dig up plant plants for transplanting, and it’s supposed to be a sunny day. It would be fun to have a dog today. I do not and that’s OK.

Yesterday: My day? Another weird one. Alice had two vet appointments, and the first one was running late, so I rescheduled it for after the second, called the first to tell them the second was running late. I rescheduled that but it all worked. She saw the ophthalmologist Again, and she’s doing very well.

He told me that he’d reached out to colleagues to discuss her options, and said that he felt continuing on her meds was the best way to go. I told him that I really appreciated him going to that trouble, and the fact that he was so responsive when I had questions. Even being 300 some miles away, I still feel like I’m not in this alone. He said I wasn’t and I could reach out anytime with questions. Bumping her up to being seen every six months, and he’s gonna try to get me an instrument to monitor her eye pressure.

I told him that I’ve gotten her a cat, and she seems cheered up for that. I said I felt like if she were to go blind, having a friend would make a big difference. He said she is doing so well that she may not get to that point for a long time, maybe never. So that was really cheering.

Then she went over to the other clinic for bloodwork, and a urine sample. Then we stopped by the dumpster site to drop off the trash. I hadn’t had time to drop off on the way to town. I was putting some things under the shelter that is our version of free cycle, when I spotted what I thought was a freezer. On general principal, I try to avoid making eye contact with anything in that shelter, but curiosity is a terrible drug. I took a closer look, and saw a note on it that said, works, icemaker doesn’t work. Like could possibly care?

Took off, thinking I should call some friends and tell them there was a freezer available, made it about a mile and a half before I turned around and went back to get the freezer. Woman parked in front of it, and I asked her if she was getting the freezer, and she said no if she was getting the spool, but she would help me put the freezer in my car if I would help her put the spool in her truck. So we did.

Turned out to be a combination, freezer and refrigerator, drawer above, and a drawer below. It’s in my garage now. It was still cold when I unloaded it, so somebody had clearly just dropped it off before I had arrived. Anyway it seems to be in good working order.

Life is a daring adventure or it is nothing at all. Or something like that.

Our old dog (when I was little) got cataracts and couldn't really see, but as long as we didn't move the furniture in the house she was fine. We got a puppy, and she seemed to understand the assignment--she'd walk along with Chessie outside. Even though the puppy was kinda dumb and also full of energy, she'd just walk with Chessie, calmly, out to where Chessie liked to go to the bathroom and then over to the sunny patch of clover where she liked to sleep. They were good friends, as your kitties are.

So, I'm sure it's been mentioned, but I think Melina was in that crime against fashion and the eyes to draw attention away from how hideous Trump continues to look in a tux. It looks like he wore the same one from 5 years ago and couldn't get the jacket closed anymore.

Have you noticed that she owns those really wide belts in every color? They're like 4 inches wide and she always wears them, including with this hideous yellow dress (I like yellow, but this was horrible). The off the shoulder was wrong, and the slit was too high for the occasion, and the hem seemed like 5 minutes before she realized the dress was too long.

Not doom related:

I did a minor kindness yesterday, in the rain, a young man trudging to the gas station with a can because his car ran out. Ten minutes of my day, a very grateful young, and maybe someday he will help someone else out..

My karma got instantly repaid when I got home and found a thing someone had sent me out of the blue JUST because they thought I'd like that thing.

Moral of the story: The world has gotten meaner. If I die insisting on not adding to it, so be it, this is the way I choose.

Mama loved "The Tonight Show" with Jack Parr, and then with Johnny Carson. She was a night owl, and there wasn't much else to watch in those days late night. I remember her talking about Tiny Tim and Miss Vicky getting married on Carson's show. She didn't care much for the later late night talk shows, but it may not have been the fault of the hosts. With the rise of cable, there were more choices - lots of good movies.

For some reason, learning of Disney's cave to tr*mp has made me think of her and those earlier late night talk show hosts.

So vis-Γ -vis late night comedians, their networks and self-censoring...

A person at the shebeen made an argument that I found persuasive:

The public is not privy to the inside conversations between the Felon's enforcers and the networks, there being a considerable difference between receiving a letter from the FCC, no matter how corrupt, and having Stephen fuckin' Miller's office call to schedule a conference, a difference between a regulator citing chapter and verse minutiae of license agreements and PeeWee German screaming "We will ruin you!!! And your families!!! Your defiance will cost you EVERYTHING!!!""

Fascists have their ways...

Observation is not excuse, it's gathering details for explanation. Dismissing observation as self-dealing?

Those owners have conjoined interests in the direction of economic enforcement, a big reason why they become owners... They're not going to do a single thing that is not in their interests, they are not going to permit things not in their interests to be done, if they can help it. Buying up the media helps it.

Some news regarding my scribbling tendencies.

1. I've decided to do the Promptoberfest writing marathon for the third year in a row. Basically I'll get a list of 31 words from a random word generator, and each day write something. I've managed it in 2023 and 2024, so I'm feeling good about it.

2. I've been a member of the local writer's group for about two or so years now, and this week's meeting may be somewhat awkward. Not because of what fandom I write for, but the fact that no one submitted anything for review. It's something that has never happened since I joined the group. We'll discuss coping methods for getting around/over/through writer's block.

3. Meanwhile, I'm waiting for this week's Thursday Prompt writing trigger, so I can get that done. I'm also working through Part 26 of 'Lemon Curry?' and have finally completed Part 2 of 'Justice.'

Ezra Klein arguing basically for nothing.

Everything in this is tired, weak pablum. It's all about how we need to overlook our differences, even though some of those might include whether or not you have the right to exist, and that yeah, sometimes that can be hard, but come on, guys! Surely social media is assisting this division and it's just. Come on. Can't we just live our lives like a very awkward family gathering where everyone has one eye on the clock because they all hate being there? Where everyone sits on the elephants in the room in order to just make meaningless small talk? Where when the one pissed up uncle starts spouting off everyone else pretends not to notice? Guys?

Is Ross aware that christian nationalism exists and that this toxic blend of religious zeal, nostalgia and intolerance of anything progressive is fueling a literal call to arms and actual lynchings of progressives and leftists and atheists?

Ross seems focused on politics and how leftists do it badly. But the current moment is not politics-as-usual. (would that it was!) The bad blood is entirely the result of the GOP marrying itself to the abusive partner of christian domination. (check out Charlie Kirk and his adherence to the so-called *Seven Mountain Mandate*. He was not shy about saying christians need to be running the whole show from top to bottom. Charlie was talking about his kind of christians and not those squishy types who keep giving food to the hungry and shelter to the refugee)

There are reasons why the constitution forbids a state religion and separates church from state. But the founders mainly wanted to avoid the ghastly examples of European atrocities committed in never ending wars, inquisitions and pogroms.

β€œMa’am, it was a recorded meeting,” - Markwayne Mullin

Aaaaannnnd there's the misogyny.

If there's a he-said/she-said dispute, the guy's supporters have such a clear picture in their heads of the guy's version of the story that they would swear on a stack of bibles they actually saw a recording of it. Or that one must surely exist.

Nothing about Kirk. Some stuff about the Maga response. Insinuation that the shooter was Maga, probably less than insinuation. All pretty tame stuff. The Maga outrage-bots were going to do their thing whatever he said.

A lot of very skillful ridiculing of Trump. Some Epstein stuff. These are imo what got Trump or Trump lackeys in a twist. 'Epstein' is alive and kicking, despite all their efforts. Epstein is laughing at Trump down in his cell in hell.
