He literally promised Pete Hegseth’s abused ex wife that there was no chance he would vote for his confirmation and became instead the 50th vote for his candidacy.

A profile in courage only without consequence. The Susan Collins award is yours sir

Finley Peter Dunne's Mr. Dooley told the story of an Irishman standing at the stern of an emigrant ship. As the coast of Ireland dipped beneath the horizon he raised his fist and shouted "To hell with the Queen! To hell with the Prince of Wales! To hell with the whole Royal Family!"

"Ah, there was a rebel", said Mr. Dooley.

"Now, it’s just a reminder that Nixon’s downfall was that he and his party were not shameless enough." EXACTLY! When did we throw out the "content of their character" metric? Telling the truth and using observable reality to state facts is just for sissies and losers now. Thanks "conservatives"! You've very likely doomed us and our children/grandchildren to a life of brutal oppression by a government stacked top to bottom with immoral crooks.

‘… The sudden need for the fortifying of an underground facility where the ballroom is being built is giving some Hitler bunker vibes….’

People are now naturally wondering aloud if this ends the same way.

I doubt it, for two reasons:

1) Can’t picture bunker baby even attempting that. He’ll be blaming everyone but himself to the bitter end, and believing his own delusions of grandeur.

2) This is a man who, even if he did try, is incompetent enough to miss.

Besides, the Trumperbunker probably won't be anywhere near completed within the next decade.

Of course Trump picked Paxton to back: the worst choice. What a giant sack of shit he is (Paxton).

These people are villains, who recognize other villains and feel a kinship. It's like a comic book, but real.

Thanks for clarifying who is the giant sack of shit!

josephebacon's avatar

Actually, Paxton is lower than shit...

He's a villain. I don't want to look at his fucking face.

Which do these republicans fear more? Donnie or the loss of campaign money?

The absence of campaign $$$.

It's ALWAYS about the $$$ with Rethugs.

My question is, are you prepared for The Big Day?

Planning that party will take preparation. Now is the time to select a theme, decide on color scheme and tablescape, and menu.

You don't know when It will happen, but you've got to be ready. A lot of people will be calling in absent to work that day. You'll want some of them to be at your celebration.

Have you thought about sending out Save the Date cards? Of course, you dont' know the date, but you could say, when it happens, party at my place!

42tontom's avatar

“Tonight we’re gonna party like this one (orange) guy just died”

- apologies to Prince

SkeptiKC's avatar

I have determined it to be essential to maintain celebratory supplies of adult beverages at ALL times.

I was an assistant den mother for a Cub Scout troop. I am always prepared.

"The auspicious timings of all these “security breaches” to justify the ballroom are starting to set off a lot of alarm bells."

Not to mention the LACK OF INVESTIGATIONS.

Has *anyone* seen a hospital report from Butler, PA?

A police report, then ...?

And once they arrested the honors teacher from California -- has anyone else seen someone captured by the Secret Service *stripped to the waist while indoors*?? Because EWWWW, and I found those visuals nauseating, soaked in historical references I hope everyone picked up -- has anyone heard anything else about THAT investigation --

other than the Donald's FORMER PERSONAL LAWYER (for which he actually still has ethical oblgations his own White House Counsel warned him about which he nonetheless has obviously utterly disregarded) acting as the "Acting Attorney General" leaping about screeching

"BALLROOM BALLROOM"

but NOTHING about gun control?

And nobody referecing the now-documented "assassination attempts" on Russian, Israeli, AND Hungarian autocrats who used them to stay in power -- with all those meetings down at Merde-A-Lago (that Merrick Garland should have prosecuted Donald for but failed)?

Anyone connecting the dots?

Anyone?

It's not just these people who make me sick. It's the national apparatus borne of laziness, ignorance, & both passive & active racism that allowed them to get into position to even try it in the first place -- and, now, the second place.

Appalling.

"they haven’t dug into the facts to see that it’s actually being driven by Democrats who have Trump derangement syndrome."

Right, right.

From the Survey:

Clearly Dems have been very busy with their TDS.

White Democrats *have* been busy hoarding resources and depriving Black & brown communities of them for GOTV nationally so that votes to elect Democrats to control unified government would repeatedly fail, though

While James Carville & his similarly situate ilk continue to appear in national media & live in houses worth 8 figures

Absolutely spot-on about Tillis.

There never was a more calculating, ruthless politician who accomplished very little.

That is to say that Tillis, whom I have observed up close since he was in the NC House, is a master tactician. It was his electoral plan that put Rs back in power on Jones Street (the address of the Legislative Building and the eponym for the seat of legislative power in North Carolina).

He was awarded the House speakership, which he and his clique (and subsequent R cliques) have used with devastating effect on NC civilization. The head-spinning pace of far-right policy changes? What's happened in DC over the last 18 months happened first in Raleigh, more than a decade ago.

With Tillis, you got sychophantic party discipline and an acceleration of the pace change. All of it either backward or hard right-ward. The politicization of the courts. Tax rate cuts for the well-connected. Consumption tax increases for the poor. Systematic destruction of public education. Damaging ideological games played with the state university. The entire "Project 2025" playbook (except for foreign policy and defense) played out in NC politics more than a decade ago. And it has Tillis's fingerprints, or benign neglect, all over it.

And he's a weasel-word spewer, that is until now. He's always seen public communication as a way to obfuscate and misdirect. His statements bordered on lies, and his actions bordered on deceit.

And he's a victim of his own reptilian style. Tillis is an authentic defender of Ukraine's interests. He co-founded the Ukraine Caucus in Congress long before the Russian invasion. It was a rare clear and principled stand from Tillis. And it got him, and the Ukrainians, nothing. Tillis tried, but he has been impotent on the issue of Ukraine as his clique and his party have moved toward Russia. Tillis got nothing for his seeming courage on that one issue. And when his re-election became imperiled because the Frankensteinian monster of right-wing ruthless nihilism that he employed to launch himself into politics is now eating all the things Tillis claimed to hold dear -- "small government," the Atlantic Alliance, the heavy hand of government out of economics (Trump is a borrow-and-spend, Russia-aligned, crony capitalist) -- Tillis quits.

Goes home. And on the way out he has the gall to say that now -- now -- he has the chance to speak honestly. The man does not have a normally formed moral character. He almost had one. But on this last Sunday, to my view, he basically admitted that he was fibbing, stretching the truth, lying strategically (take your pick) during all of it, until now.

They talk about being wary of the zeal of the converted. Here's a case of being morally disgusted by the honesty of the lame-duck.

42tontom's avatar

“Oh, so this is what you say now. What about this long fucking list of things YOU DID?”

Tony Seybert's avatar

Tillis is yet another conservative who wants a cookie because he figured out something super-obvious that normal people figured out ten years ago.

He reminds me of those German generals who waited until 1944 to notice that Hitler was bad for Germany.
