It's an ignorant question, but just to be sure: Pie tin, pastry case, and pie case are all referring to the same thing, yes? Because you call it three different things over two paragraphs.
Butterfingers are made with corn flakes and I will amorously and defiantly eat the next one while thinking of Mr Kellog and his libido strangling ways.
This is the most spiritually advanced baking post I’ve ever read. A holy rebellion against John Harvey Kellogg himself, using sugar and joy to exorcise the ghost of dietary repression.
Cornflake Tart as the Eucharist of defiance. The body of childhood, given again for you.
Custard is a crime against nature. My father liked the vegetarian version Blue Bird or something like that. Evert time i see a can in the grocery I'm transported back to when I wasn't allowed to leave the table until I finished my custard. That's why I'm the way I am today. :(
I'm a big fan of CakesWeLike, not to mention sugar in its many forms, but just reading this recipe is making my teeth ache from all the sweet. I'll look forward to your next post.
I still very occasionally make peanut butter balls, a delightful sugar bomb from grade school lunches on Fridays. Basically, gobs of peanut butter, Karo syrup and butter, melted together, a huge pile of cornflakes, and then cooled before rolling into golf ball sized bundles of sugary goodness.
Carb count too high. I can't even eat a bowl of cornflakes with milk (sans sugar) without blowing my glucose for half a day. The only breakfast cereal based dessert I eat (maybe once a year) is grape-nut custard. Weird New England food - mainly seen in diners and made at home by people who survived the Great Depression (like my Mom). Here's a King Arthur recipe that's pretty typical. My Mom didn't use a water bath, but made a double recipe in a 9x11" pan and avoided scorching my using a slower oven and longer cooking. I remember eating this at two local diners: Casey's Lunch and The Blue Eagle.
Grapenut pudding! OMG, I love it. I haven't seen it anywhere in years, even the diners. IIRC though, Legal Seafood had resurrected it as a dessert on their menu for a time in the late 80's/early 90's.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac hints that the widespread popularity of Grape-Nut Pudding in New England may stem from a recipe in a 1901 church cookbook published by the Dudley Street Baptist Church in Boston. https://www.almanac.com/recipe/grape-nut-pudding
Oh good! If you have time to kill waiting for seating at Deluxe Town diner, there are several excellent Armenian and Middle Eastern bakeries and groceries just north of there on Mt. Auburn St. Fastachi has incredibly good nuts, dried fruits, and chocolates – I think they're open Saturdays.
Mount Auburn Cemetery is an fascinating place for a stroll. Enjoy!
I'm a little west of that, but I still haven't seen it in ages. Interesting though, some new owners took over a diner-like institution near me recently. (Older generation finally sold to some youngs, but had them in for like 6 months to work together before the sale would be completed.)
I'll have to suggest this to them while they tweak the menu.
Bibi needs to feel pressure from the U.S. to stop the killing. So the only reason Trump is finally delivering that pressure is to assuage his own ego? Who cares? That's the only reason Trump ever does anything. If that's the only way the killing will stop at least for a little while, then I'll take it.
Exactly. I was so hoping that he would leave Biden's economy alone and take credit for it, even if it was unjust. How naive--he's got too many evil minions screwing things up for that.
Good article in The Guardian. I did not know about this podcast, IHIP (I've Had it podcast), until an hour ago. But I like them. Along with MeidasTouch, The Bulwark, MSNBC, Times Radio, David Parkman, Brian Tyler Cohen and others. Diversity is good.

"When Donald Trump scheduled a press conference after a weekend in which rumors about his health swirled, two women in red-state Oklahoma launched a livestream for their more than 1 million followers on YouTube to speculate about the condition of “Cankles McTacoTits”, shortened to Canks “for expediency and spite”.
"It was fitting for the profanity-laced, straight talking liberal podcast I’ve Had It that quipped, after interviewing Barack Obama, that the former president has “big dick energy”.
Jennifer Welch and Angie “Pumps” Sullivan have risen up the podcast charts, buoyed by Democrats looking to commiserate and find their party’s answer to the bro-filled atmosphere that helped propel Trump’s victory in 2024."
Per WaPo today, the Trump administration is considering reducing eligibility for the Social Security disability program by 10 percent, meaning 750,000 fewer people would receive benefits for all or part of the next decade. In addition, 80,000 fewer widows and children would receive benefits.
If you support this, go visit your mother, or visit her grave, to explain why she should be proud of the heartless monster you have become.
I'm amazed that those of us over 70 (way over) can still get the covid vaccine. We should volunteer to die in order to lessen the burden on the Hitler Yoots and the Bros.
Why cant I copy and paste the recipe info?
I am logged in proper and everything.

This looks like a good use of cornflakes, which I’ve never much liked. It seems like a kindred spirit to the puffed wheat square, which is a prairie delight that I didn’t know was regional until I was an adult.http://www.mennonitegirlscancook.ca/2009/10/ooey-gooey-chocolatey-puff-wheat-squares.html

I just feel it is our sacred duty to spit in the eyes of sexually repressive religious prudes throughout history.
When William Kellogg finds out Tesco is stealing his Corn Flakes recipe you should expect a strongly worded letter.

Thank you, Cakes! I'm going to try this!

I don't think you're going to get on too well with my next post either. I don't hold back when I'm making Cakes Jr's birthday cake.
I get quite a bit of joy reading good writing about things I may never eat again, though!
Me too.
Flakin' Out is too a classic Joe Jackson song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJwt2dxx9yg

My mom used to roll them in Cocoa Krispies instead of corn flakes. It's a wonder we didn't just keel over from the sugar rush bliss!
That's pure genius. Chocolate AND peanut butter.
Much as I love my mother, I'm pretty sure she got the idea from Good Housekeeping!

Still on the menu in 2025 in classic diners in Watertown and Waltham!
On my way!!! (Zooms down Storrow to Watertown)
The Deluxe Town Diner in Watertown has an amazing world menu now, yet you can still get Rhode Island Johnny Cakes! https://familydestinationsguide.com/massachusetts-classic-best-breakfast
A real diner!! Seriously, it's on my list for next weekend. Thanks!

I bet it would be appealing to those who didn't grow up with it, maybe with a little cardamom?
You know what else I really liked? Indian Pudding. Student Prince in Springfield, Salem Cross Inn, Wayside Inn all had the good stuff.
The Student Prince! So bummed that they're gone. They were often a stop for me when I had business in Springfield.
It’s still there, just different. Less than half the original menu.
The hilarious rude waitresses at Durgin Park used to love tossing Indian pudding on the table in front of the uninitiated!
It's still being served at the Wayside Inn and at the Colonial Inn in Concord.
Axios says Trump is really pressuring Bibi to recognize the great deal that Trump believes he has put together:

Which if true...FINE.

You can make "Krispy Treats" out of a lot of things. I've made them out of Cheerios, corn flakes, and Grape Nuts Flakes.
Cocoa Crispies! Fruity Pebbles!

Way to go Okies!!!
