My late friend's grandpa was the prosecuting attorney for Clearwater County the last time martial law was declared in Idaho. He was an assistant prosecutor* two years out of law school when an estimated 2,500 6C loggers joined the larger Wobbly strike in the PNW. There he was, happily prosecuting striking loggers for Use of Abusive Language (which carried a fine of $8.50!,) Loitering, and various other DUNG (Dudes Up to No Good) charges when the shooting started. 5 picketers were wounded. 10 "non-union loggers" a/k/a Gun Thugs were arrested and charged with two counts of Attempted Murder each. Before the defendants were even bound over to the District Court, it was already the most expensive trial in the county's history.
Of course, the honorific is somewhat diminished by the fact that Clearwater County had only existed for about 25 years. Amusingly, it had been lopped off of the notoriously unruly Shoshone County (which once spent 2 full years under martial law) in part to limit the influence of the gotdamned Western Federation of Miners among the timbermen. In any event, young Sam didn't make many friends on either side of the dispute, particularly after he requested bonds of $3,000 for each of the alleged gunmen and fines of $200 for 5 strikers involved in an earlier fracas. The record is a little unclear as to whether any of the gunhands were actually convicted, but that was life in the 30s, I guess. If they weren't, it wasn't for lack of effort.
People who think of Idaho as Mississippi with a General American accent would be surprised by the number of north Idaho natives who have labor "radicals" digging their corks into the ol' family tree.
Actual newspaper clipping from 1936, wow that is really something!
The Wobblies are my favorite historical union organizers. Stupid asshole AFL, fucking with them! You have the same purpose! You can't have all the dues of every union member in the USA, jackasses, leave them alone!
Basically, the business model for these kinds of things is you build up a readership that tends to lean liberal as you're reporting is focused on reality and then you sell it to a right-wing billionaire.
Trump, regarding the Iranian's treatment of protesters, says that Mike Johnson is the only person he knows who is tough enough to go out in those conditions.
They are selling out our country for bullshit reasons. Maybe they'll finally wake the fuck up and take this seriously at some point. Probably not, though, if history is any indication.
NYT: "Trump Criticizes Allies for Rebuffing His Appeals for Military Assistance"
This is the asshole who wants to pull the US out of NATO and who for the last 10+ years has been insulting, chiding, taunting, and tariffing all the US allies. This is the guy who started this war of choice, at Israel's behest, without consulting US allies or providing an explanation to anyone, including the American people.
I don't know why you torture yourself by listening to his bullshit. I gave up listening to him a while ago. You know he isn't ever going to say anything other than some dumbass bullshit.
I have never watched a full speech or press conference that featured him. I only ever see clips, and I don’t even do that on purpose. If he’s speaking, he’s lying. That’s all I need to know.
ETA: I guess on some level I want to witness this and on another level I'm hoping for something to change. For someone to finally get tired of it and call him out and him to have a meltdown. Or for a "hey man nice shot" moment. So I guess I'm perversely optimistic, in a way?
True story: one of my longest-serving friends co-owns the rights to the Muppet Show theme, along with a bunch of Sesame Street songs. His uncle wrote them and he and his sister inherited the rights when he died.
Ta, Erik. Another interesting chapter in US labor history, and one with which I was unfamiliar. Solidarity forever.

Here's an old-timey story about the incident: https://content.libraries.wsu.edu/digital/collection/clipping/id/28020/rec/157
* -- It's not really clear why the assistant prosecutor was running the show, but he definitely was.

Trumptivus and the airing of grievances . . . is endless.
It seems like his short term memory is so bad now that he doesn't even remember what he says from one sentence to the next.
With Trump, every day is Festivus!
Trump, regarding the Iranian's treatment of protesters, says that Mike Johnson is the only person he knows who is tough enough to go out in those conditions.
Has he actually met Mike Johnson?
That dawg done hunt.
The Power of Christ compels him
Well, send him out there then!
I could trample that little be-rouged fucking garden gnome fuck in about ten minutes.
And I'm a fairly out-of-shape mature woman of 54.
You could just loom over the pipsqueak.
You could just yell at him and he'd turn and run away.
I think some stern side-eye would likely do the trick. No need for all that yelling...
LOL!
😁😂🤣😂
wHY dOeS THe MeDia leT hiM LiE CoNsTAntlY wiTh nO PusHbaCk?!?!?
Why? Because you keep watching.
Naw. They're cowards and all playing for the same side. Has nothing to do with who is "watching" what.
Besides, I watch via the White House link so no "media" is registering my clicks for that.
The answer is that to call him out would be to expose themselves to accusations of bias. And that's worse to them than letting him lie.
Spineless cowards and the more fool them.
They are selling out our country for bullshit reasons. Maybe they'll finally wake the fuck up and take this seriously at some point. Probably not, though, if history is any indication.

Welcome to the Strait of Pottery Barn . . .
"See!? NATO is worthless, just like Vlad said."
“This is not our war; we did not start it.” –Boris Pistorius, German Defense Minister
Allies Rejection of Military Assistance No Surprise
Trump Courted Their Rejection Over Months
I could write better headlines in my sleep
But in the same breath he says that we are the strongest nation and we don't need anyone's help.
Fuck his Norman Vincent Peale refuse to acknowledge any negative circumstances toxic positivity delusional BULLSHIT.
This is some sick and twisted rhetoric he's spewing.
Here he goes with violence porn.
I don't know why you torture yourself by listening to his bullshit. I gave up listening to him a while ago. You know he isn't ever going to say anything other than some dumbass bullshit.
I don't watch him at all. I've heard all his lies before.
I can't look at him and I certainly can't listen to him lest I vomit. It's been good for my sanity.
I have never watched a full speech or press conference that featured him. I only ever see clips, and I don’t even do that on purpose. If he’s speaking, he’s lying. That’s all I need to know.
That's my standard as well. No need to listen.
It’s only a matter of what he’s lying about, and it’s bound to be stupid.
I don't know either. :(
ETA: I guess on some level I want to witness this and on another level I'm hoping for something to change. For someone to finally get tired of it and call him out and him to have a meltdown. Or for a "hey man nice shot" moment. So I guess I'm perversely optimistic, in a way?
But if the "call out" miracle ever happens we can wallow in the clips without subjecting ourselves to constant torture!
Very true.
I feel like I need to check in on him like I would with a terminal patient under my care.
I figure if there's any change I'd hear it here tout de suite.
Little known fact: that table won't sit straight because it was made from Wobbly lumber.
I can’t watch. My bullshit quota is full.
New doll: Chatty Donnie. Pull its string and it rambles incoherently for a random period not less than 10 minutes.
Pull the string, press corps.
Disinformation AND AI? Holy famolies!!1!!!
He claimed he had never seen AI before that. Bullshit. I call fucking BULLSHIT.
So he didn't see the thing of him flying a jet and crapping on protesters. Got it.
He thinks he really did that.
Also a sir story. All sir stories are lies.
The easiest tell of them all.
He posted AI slop of him flying a jet and shitting on protestors during the last No Kings protest. Really, this wasn't that long ago.
This. And also the thing he posted with the AI Gaza as a high-class like Dubai resort area with AI figures that looked like Musk and Trump.
He's a fucking shitliar and needs to be *redacted*.
MAGA has squirrel attention span. He knows this
We will need to reconstruct the fuck out of them. Or force them onto the Pacific Garbage patch at bayonet point.
We can't live with them. We can't have a country with them. Period.
Witkoff to Iran, "Please, Pretty Please With Sugar On It...Let Me Talk To You?"
Iran to Witless Wikoff. "Fuck Off!"
https://www.dropsitenews.com/p/iran-war-trump-witkoff-araghchi
Witkoff sends note to Iran: "Do U like TACO? _ Yes _No"
Iran answers "No."
Witkoff sends notes to others in class: "Ask Iran if they like TACO"
You stop..NO you stop first..No YOU stop first..
Hell of a stupid pissing game.
The press is so feeble around him.
We are in sooo much trouble.
Which is why I call those Pre$$titutes "The DC Press Corpse"!
He largely doesn't allow "real" press in there anymore. It's most right-wing lickspittles and a tremendous number of "podcasters."
Then it get regurgitated
Right wing media human centipede
#Seth Triggs
Yep.
Listening to MLY = Muppet Show theme lyric:
"Why do we even come here, I guess we'll never know, it's like a form of torture just to watch the show."
Now he's talking to Pepe and Alfie.
True story: one of my longest-serving friends co-owns the rights to the Muppet Show theme, along with a bunch of Sesame Street songs. His uncle wrote them and he and his sister inherited the rights when he died.
Wow!
