"the 59 top cities and capitals all have triumphal arches"??? I'd like to see that list. I don't remember seeing any arches in LA except at McDonalds.

The retired general interviewed this a.m. on NPR was saying that the only people snipers would be shooting at would likely be U.S. citizens--hardly a military/national defense target.

So…a hollow triumphal arch that’s still going to sink into the swampland below it? That’s the plan?

See how insane that sounds? Dealing with crazy people taught me to speak plainly.

I have a "strong request" of the fucking fuck. My twin brother is buried in Arlington. Do you know how offensive this is to our family and every single family that isn't fucking MAGAt's? Fuck this asshole fucking fuck to the ends of The Universe and beyond and when he gets there he can behold the wonders of this field of fucks that I no longer give a fucking shit about. I hate this fuck with every fiber of my being.

Land Shark 🇺🇦 🏳️‍⚧️'s avatar

I can't believe even MAGA veteran families would want this.

Holly - Lima Charlie's avatar

Remember that stupid fucking photo op the idiot fuck made standing on a grave in Arlington with that family of MAGAt's doing the tiny thumbs up thing a while back?

Next- laser beam guns on top of the Washington Monument. Because George always wanted them there.

CzechJournalists's avatar

oh lordy. even fox news has to be clowning on this "drone port and snipers" to guard a graveyard thing. especially when said graveyard already has its own eternal flame. somebody go watch and report back, i no wanna do it.

clairence's avatar

I'm guessing they're going with, "it makes sense if you think about it." Because their viewers are easily misled.

Elviouslyqueer's avatar

"Easily misled," "fucking stupid." Potato, potahtoe.

If ya got snipers up in the arch all day, yer gonna have to have toilets and probably other stuff (a well-stocked snack vending machine and a coffee maker?) that those snipers are gonna need for their endless days of boredom, staring out at the traffic as it circles around and around and around... Anyway, I'm just sayin', less room to store all those important drones and ammo and sharks and stuff.

GH Swell's avatar

Will they have to wear fuzzy hats like the guards at Buckingham palace? But blonde-orange with longer fur that’s been combed up and over?

Last time I went to DC, I got gas in Virginia. I was amazed that the little convenience store at the gas station had a row of video slot machines next to the chips & beef jerky.

"This country has finally gone to shit," I thought. "Vegas is bad enough. Gambling at a gas station? There's no coming back from this."

Mark my words - there'll be a ring of them around that arch. Thiel, Bezos, Adelman & Musk are competing right now to offer him the biggest bribe for the concession.

If you replace "snipers" with "strippers" it does not change the truth of your non-comment much.

"My fort has drones! And snipers!"

And why would we need military drones and snipers stationed in Washington D.C.? Who exactly do you plan to use them on, you degenerate Nazi filth?

Chemical's avatar

Like I said downthread, if you know that there are snipers in the arch, then there isn't any point of having snipers in there. The main purpose of snipers is that you do not know where the snipers are. Building a giant monument to fascism and then putting a "Snipers are here" sign on it is the surest way to get them killed, if there was a hostile force actually invading the Capitol.

Chemical's avatar

This isn't even advanced military tactics. Anyone who has ever played any video game out of the Battlefield or Call of Duty franchises knows what immediately happens to snipers when their position is discovered.

Hamilton & The Crew TEAM ALGAE's avatar

I read that as "My fart has drones! And snipers!"

And since I ran out of weed, I was immediately able to do a double-take on myself.

zuludaddy (seamonkey!)'s avatar

of a piece, but not quite on topic:

everywonk knows about the January 3rd issue upcoming, whereby Mike Johnson refuses to acknowledge the ascension of the next congress, and everything falls apart then and there?

let's all recall that the current fucking occupant of the White House also too refused to participate in the peaceful transfer of power when Biden was inaugurated, ending a thread unbroken since George Washington's time

clairence's avatar

George who? I mean, if he was so important, why isn't anything named after him?

Trump wants his name in more places, to prove to himself HE is the most bestest.

1: I wonder if he's openly declaring to the world that Arch and Ballrooom are legitimate military targets?

2: "or Hitler finally builds an aircraft carrier and sends an invasion force across the Atlantic? " The only good the snipers would be in that scenario is for celebratory gunfire to welcome him and shooting the protesters who didn't want Hitler to invade the US. (and I'm dead certain, that all of the protesters would be disparaged as 'antisemitic Communists' for protesting actual fucking Nazis...)

OT: It's been a while since we had an update on Nick Reiner. In the past year and a half, his lawyer has resigned, insisting Reiner is, by CA law, innocent. According to what I have read, about a month before the killings, Reiner's doctor had changed Reiner's medication and he was having very serious mental health issues. I am guessing that is why the lawyer says he is not not guilty under CA law.

Reiner is currently represented by a public defender. In August, he was charged with an additional count of "lying in wait" which has been dropped based on further interviews with the family. In September, the LA district attorney announced that they will not seek the death penalty. That also makes it sound like there are some special circumstances being considered. A trial should take place in 2027

Most recently, Reiner has been denied access to the family trust to pay for his defense.

Fully don’t have any idea the legal standard for “not guilty via insanity defense” in Cali, but I know other jursidictions it’s a very strict test of “legitimately had no idea what they were doing”. If heavily influenced by schizophrenia and bipolar forces, but still fully cognizant of the act committed it would not be a defense to criminal charges (but possibly a mitigating factor when it comes to punishment)

I think the “not guilty” argument is just a reminder of “innocent until proven”

Deeply don’t envy any side who’s got to process this case, as I’m sure it’ll be more painful than anything.

OT: I hate to break it to everyone but this Press ban isn’t the turning point they think it is. They’re not suing to hold him accountable. They’re just mad they lost their precious access. They’ll keep right on sanewashing him once they get it back.

clairence's avatar

I read the press pool is boycotting today.

Thesaurus Wrecks 2547's avatar

Of course. Because they want their access back. Until they promise to stop sanewashing and normalizing him I’m not impressed.
