Brand new Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton has been a busy boy! After the rousing success of his dumb letter advising Iran that it shouldn't bother negotiating a nuclear deal because President Ted Cruz is going to bomb them anyway, Sen. Cotton finally got to give his First Official Speech to the Senate Monday night. And in what appears to be a Republican tradition, he warned that it is the mid-1930s and America is woefully unprepared to fight Hitler. It was an especially impressive performance, since he actually managed to get the Hitler analogy into the speech
What??? We could cut our defense spending to a fraction of its current level and _still_ spend more than any other country!!! Who are we scared of??? Iran?? They have a tiny army and no way of getting to us.
The constant scare stuff is _really_ _REALLY_ getting old...
He can't be taken seriously as a Republican warmonger and all around asshole until he uses the tried and true "the military was stabbed in the back" bullshit slander.
Jesus what a punchable mug this asshole has I can just see him hanging out with LNS aka Late Night Shots the Republican doucheclub (the way, way back machine...I read archives years ago). Oh and Dok the reason he didn't mention tax cuts is because they don't even need mentioning any longer. It's like deregulation, for wingnuts akin to scratching their nuts or lying...compulsive.
The Hitler analogy is almost never accurate. Hitler was a problem, but mostly because of the massive capability of German industry and technology, which he commanded. Comparing that to emerging nations like Iran and Iraq is ridiculous. Russia and China are formidable, but their governments are determinedly anti-fascist. Of course, considering the Republican ideology, they may consider anti-fascism a threat.
That's what's sooooooooo exhausting with all these kinds of claims coming from the right.
It's a throw off, lazy analogy that doesn't work for SO MANY reasons, but....it....just....sounds....good because YEAH HITLER'S BAD!!!
It's "easy" for those R's to understand the analogy. But as you have demonstrated, it takes an exhaustive effort to show these idiots why this doesn't work, but that requires nuance, patience and a historical appreciation for context.
Yikes. Next thing you'll be hearing is "Obama gave money to group and sent his people to run a group that was against Bibi!"
It's very kind sorta on a molecular level kinda true, but it's not, especially not in the way they say it.
"We have steadily disarmed..."?????

Ok, Cruz got into Harvard on a minority set-aside, but how did this bumpkin get in. Certainly not on the strength of his essay.
Those dead eyes, that blank expression, he looks like an extra from The Walking Dead.
White trash set-aside?

I don't think Godwin's Law is adequate anymore. it needs a small list of sub-laws.
Thanks for the link. Good read (except for the indigestion afterwards).
I think that would be preferable to stroking all fast and furious-like - that leaves a mark.

I'm totally down with building more Spitfires. Sexiest fighter plane EVER.
Okay, I intend to have nightmares tonight thanks to this...
What we're scared of is being immolated along with Cotton-Brained Tom.
