Not doom related, or maybe it is, I don't know, the lines blur anymore:
The other night during the baseballin' sportsball, they had a dude on who was a retired master chief or somesuch do the national anthem and he just did a straight performance in a powerful voice and it was, to me, something of a novelty compared to the newest trend of renditions of "sticking in as many notes as possible". Mind, I still do not know why they are doing anthem at sportsball games, I find it really gruesome, but at least in this one it makes sense and I am sure they are doing the canadian one too just not broadcasting it on the TV.
ANYWAY last night I thought, in the beginning, it was going to be the same. Guy started out doing a straight up version, though the sustain on some notes was a bit over long. Then it got to the end and idk what the fuck was even going on there. Made me cringe worse than the lady that kept doing the weird voice swings last time.
idk, I'm hardly a fan of forced patriotisms, but I really, really, super dislike the trend of doing all that weird shit to it.
My high school band director always said the anthem was a march, not a funeral dirge. I detest stylized versions of the anthem. I make an exception for Jimi Hendrix.
It's a holdover from WWI, when the nation needed a patriotic shot in the arm, so to speak. Now it's got a solid stranglehold, and it's impossible to get rid of. They play recordings at Little League games and Cub Scout den meetings.
One company I worked for did a trip to the National's game, in a super box no less, as a reward for us making them all the money.
It was quite nice though the popcorn was a bit stale. Anyway, that night they had a dude on a violin, only it was a violin he made out of a baseball bat.
Reading an article about an NSF grant to a software foundation. The terms for the grant include "operate any programs that advance or promote DEI, or discriminatory equity ideology in violation of Federal anti-discrimination laws" as a condition. The foundation turned the grant down.
But what I'm reading: the "anti-DEI" shit is an EO, not a law. In fact, the REAL LAW promotes equity in hiring, right? I applaud the foundation for not caving to this bullshit, but I'm getting tired of the maladministration calling that stupid Executive Order a "law" ... it isn't.
I would like to ask one of those assholes what they find so objectionable about diversity, equality and inclusion. By now, none of them even remember, if they ever knew, what the letters stand for. It's all a knee jerk now. Along with "woke."
They claim it discriminates against white men because it gives preference to not white men.
Whereas it does not do anything of the kind and if we had a working fucking press, instead if presenting their claims as if a valid argument, would remind people every time that DEI /is an anti discriminatory measure
Well, our fucking MAGA piece of shit Gov. Shitt, I mean Stitt has announced that we have a $1 Billionz rainy day fund* that can be accessed for SNAP as long as the state leg approves it. I feel certain they will as most of our leg is "pro-life" and those pieces of shit is FINALLY learning that "pro-life" means feeding people. According to my local paper, 770,000 OKans are on SNAP, which is like 1/5 people. That's a fucking lot. I hope "businesses" are proud that they don't pay enough salary for their employees to make ends meet. They should be taxed to all hell for it. WIC, I read, will not be affected and will continue to be funded.
*because being ranked LAST in education isn't an emergency.
And here I thought OK was *second* to last in education. Anyway ... wasn't it your goobnor who ranted about it was unacceptable for the National Guard from *another* state to be deployed in Oklahoma?
Both of these things sound kind-a not republican ...
Trump just wants to feel powerful. I do think there are some in our military who are entirely too credulous, and think Russia actually has the weapons it makes up to make Putin feel powerful.
If we're lucky, we'll do the same 'testing' as Russia does, which is just making up outrageous claims about the capability of weapons that don't exist.
They should. They should make a special one just for him. It comes with a gilded trophy but no money, just to rub it in. The Trophy can have ol Alfred glaring and giving a middle finger
It's funny how all the guys who need people to keep "investing" in AI swear there is no bubble, but everyone else is all...this AI shit is not really doing anything yet the stocks are sky high....ya know...like they do right before a bubble bursts.
I’m trying to imagine what it’s like inside their heads. The numbers are so huge, the looming ruin so immense. At some point they almost certainly really believed in this stuff and they kept climbing further out on the branch. At this point though anyone smart is checking the packing of their parachute.
The stupid thing: it DOES have uses. Was almost certainly worth putting some money into. There is a mathematical theory proof my son pointed out a while ago an AI found. It’s just ridiculously oversold, overbuilt, overinvested. No one needed crap drawings and writing, but that sold it. And of course a world that loves assembly line art would be fine with the actually robotic. And I wonder sometimes if this particular bubble is due so much else being kinda grim. People want hope so they latch onto this mania. Just hoping at this point for just some kinda semiapocalypse this time. But it isn’t looking great.
Before I woke up the other morning, I saw a grey alien and he was driving a Yugo full of those things. He had a box of rectumfires in the front passenger seat.
For three years now, I've been using a random word generator to compile a list of prompts for the entire month. Next year, I'll do one word a day rather than a list, to increase the level of difficulty a bit.

Just tell these people that chemtrails are skygod farts and we must honor the skygods lest we endure their wrath.
"...people who ask questions in good faith were dismissed, even vilified..."
Because they were actually asking them in bad faith. Otherwise, they would listen to the answers and evaluate them on the basis of evidence.
Example:
"What chemtrail programs have been stopped?"
That's the evil Trump for you.
You do realise that he's the president and in charge of all righ+t now?
/s :P
Happy Chemtrails to you...Until we meet again.
I had a cat laying on top of me, and she was blissfully happy, and I rolled over on my side anyway. I’ll be a long time in purgatory for that.
I believe in the work of the International Chemtrail Association. Dimmer, safer skies for all.

I don't mind a couple things thrown in for fun, but the entire make it your own seems out of place on a national anthem XD
It's a holdover from WWI, when the nation needed a patriotic shot in the arm, so to speak. Now it's got a solid stranglehold, and it's impossible to get rid of. They play recordings at Little League games and Cub Scout den meetings.
Swim meets, too. Best one I heard at a meet was local kid on electric guitar, no vocals.

It was pretty frickin cool.
I'm down with instrumental versions XD
The football now does fly overs at the end. Only their timing sucks and they usually drown out the last measure or two of the song.
Which for me is generally a relief. Hubby plays the sportsballing loud so there is no getting away from the warblin'
I’ve heard that earphones make a lovely gift, appropriate at any time of the year, but especially ball season.

WaPo: Trump directs Pentagon to test nuclear weapons for first time since 1992 [https://wapo.st/47JNyNX]
"We have test sites,” Trump said. “It’ll be announced.” Portland?
He's already made a spot on a shelf for the Nobel War Prize he covets so much.
I hope the state where they test is glad they voted for him.
Madman's gotta madman.
We know they work. We don't need to test them, so this is a real waste of money they keep telling us that we don't have.
Do they think it makes them look manly to blow shit up?
Dementia Donnie thinks* China and Russia are testing nukes. AFIK only his lover Kim Jung Un has done any nuclear testing recently (2017).

A friend of mine enjoys strolling about the internets, and a couple days ago he threw this at me:

We had a few moments chortling about the vowel stress on the first syllable, and he suggested I might use it for a story.
Today's writing prompt is 'channel,' so we shall see what I can come up with.

Yup.
