I understand that many immigrants come to the US to work to support their families in their home country and I enjoy spreading the wealth.

Lifting families out of poverty around the world should be a goal the US strives for.

But using public assistance to fund your life in the U.S. while you send your entire paycheck out of the country? I don't know if I can support that.

We need more information about this issue.

The government that declared the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act a dead letter is doing its darndest to monitor every penny spent by anyone on public assistance. Here in Iowa, you can't buy soda pop with SNAP based on a "waiver" from DC. Meanwhile, God forbid someone on any form of public assistance send a wedding present to their son back in Somalia.

Ta, Marcie. So-called "illegal" immigrants do not and cannot qualify for public assistance. Period. This maladministration has created such a huge pile of straw men that no one had better play with matches.

I can't believe we have to keep saying this.

re. your Q: So I changed Marcie’s hed to this, but I don’t know if I’m really feeling it or not. What do you think? Does it really capture all the flavor?

A: It's missing the keyword "billionaire", as in:

Heartless Billionaire Treas Sec Does NOT SEE Why We Let Poor People Send Money To Families Back Home!

That supplies the missing context ...

Oh the crimes the Trump regime are justifying are no longer crimes, only for their benefit of their regime. Let’s not pretend any longer that this is American government, this is a crime cabal with the awful, mighty power of trillions of dollars of military equipment under their control.

I hate that this entire administration is a set of incredibly stupid people, coming up with incredibly stupid ideas, and then saying, "implement my idiot ideas, because I are SMRT!" and not realizing that smarter people than them have thought of those ideas, and noted how stupid they were.

Just motherfuckers saying "could we put bleach inside of people?" about every possible concept in existence.

A new term I've recently heard is "Trumps Razor":

When trying to understand why or how Trump (or his administration) did something, the stupidest explanation is probably the right one.

If Bessent was so concerned about people sending money out of the country, then he would concentrate on rich people using off shore secret bank accounts. It is not the business of the government to dictate how the lowest income earners in this country spend their money.

Bessent should investigate how Trump will be collecting his cut from the two major foreign oil trading companies who will be buying & selling the Venezuelan crude oil. If Trump were only to take a dollar per barrel from each shipload, for example, he would have made $1.8 million on the first ship he seized. The oil traders are in foreign countries and there is absolutely no way to find out how much and how they are paying Trump to get the oil.

Maybe Bessent should be talking about how much money Trump has made, averaging out on a daily basis, since he has been in office. The figure could easily hit as much as $9 million per day. Which dwarfs any collective amount any group of itinerant workers could be sending home.

Or American corporations shifting their profits to low-tax environs to avoid paying for their fair share of American support. THAT would be a good place to start.

Bessent reminds me of a remark JFK made during his final SOTU that the Unites States should guard against becoming materially rich which spiritually poor. Both Trump and Bessent prove we didn’t achieve that goal.

red tape exists for a reason!

"We want more oversight!"

"Okay, that's more red tape: more paperwork, more bureaucrats to process the paperwork..."

"No, no more bureaucracy!"

"Okay, then less oversight."

No escaping that dynamic. And anyone saying "But AI..." will get slapped.

What kind of slapping is on offer?
