This would be a great time for all those Second Amendment gun owners to grab their guns, and take the despots out of the halls of government.

I mean, if gun owners accept this unconstitutional power grab, then the whole "guns protect our freedom from tyranny" argument is just kind of BS, isn't it?

Good luck with that. "We need guns to protect us from government tyranny" they say, and when a tyrannical government sent federal troops to assault American cities, they sided with the government.

Finally. My exhortations since 1969 are now surfacing everywhere. Years of being maligned, scoffed at, dismissed and attempted silencing by the staid institutions I worked for have not been in vain. They were Nazis then, they remain Nazis today. Fuck comity and "bipartisanship". I'm a partisan and I like to win at the expense of Nazis and their collaborators. Welcome aboard!

Fellow citizens take action now. Dems in Congress will not. Quoting the Constitution is no good in removing muskow and our felon thug dictator. They have taken over our government. The GOP supports 100% what is happening. Our Republic is lost unless huge masses of law abiding citizens crash all offices and physically remove every muskow groupie. It isn't against the law to attack invaders and criminals. Words, Congressional laws, injunctions are things of the past. They mean nothing to these Nazis. Hitler would be proud.

A Republican (I presume) Nazi replied to one of my comments on another post about how it's wrong to label MuskX as an unelected bureaucrat, because all the real unelected bureaucrats are just getting what they deserve. Except not ALL of the civil servants are getting what they deserve - which is being furloughed or fired en masse. Whole agencies, USAID, many at the CIA (!), Labor, the GSA, OPM, soon Education, DOJ, OSHA, and all other agencies, received or will receive notices to not come to work. To accept an illegal "buyout". If they don't, they'll be fired. This is not rooting out "government waste". It is a systematic dismantling of federal agencies. Which is the point. What is left will be plundered for the enrichment of MuskX as contracts for his businesses. Coup indeed.

I had some "let's try to be reasonable" type of GOPer lie about what IGs do - he claimed that internal auditing was never part of their jobs, clearly confusing internal audits and tax audits. When I corrected him, he was all "I bow to your greater knowledge, but why do you think bureaucrats can adequately audit entrenched bureaucracies?"

So I gave him both barrels and told him that internal auditing was a profession, done by professionals, not something that ketamine-soaked asshats with no experience and no security clearance can just do in a weekend, and that he not only maligned solid professionals who are more rewarded - when it comes to it - for FINDING shit that's not working, not for covering it up, but he was also ignoring the fact that in reasonable times, a band of unqualified, unvetted hacks who got unlawful access to American citizens' most sensitive data would be fucking prosecuted for espionage.

Jamelle Bouie is correct.

"But as those opponents strategize their response, it is vital that they see the important truth that there is no going back to the old status quo. President Trump and Elon Musk really have altered the structure of things. They’ve taken steps that cannot be so easily reversed. If American constitutional democracy is a game, then they’ve flipped the board with the aim of using the same pieces to play a new one with their own boutique rules.

And so the president’s opponents, whoever they are, cannot expect a return to the Constitution as it was. Whatever comes next, should the country weather this attempted hijacking, will need to be a fundamental rethinking of what this system is and what we want out of it.

Anything less will set us up for yet another Trump and yet another Musk."

He's saying what Democratic politicians cannot really say, yet.

But he's not following the logic of his argument to its conclusion, since NYT columnists can't say those things.

But I'm just a jerk on the Internet, so I can say those things.

There is no going back without a counter-coup of some kind, implying Blue State and/or military intervention, their are no other actors that can do this since the fascists have the executive, the legislative, the SC, major media. The necessary minimum actions would be to remove or sideline Trump, remove Musk, put in a caretaker administration to restore the functioning of the government to approximately what it was before the Coup, restore Congressional control of Congressional perogatives, suspend federal judicial intervention of the measures taken, ensure the defensive capacity of the military, arrange the elections 2028 with imposed (unconstitutional, yes, sorry) conditions (federal management of all federal elections, redistricting where a special court finds gerrymandering, direct popular vote i.e. no EC, Citizens United suspended, maybe federal funding of elections). Republicans might still win, and rule, and do slow damage like before, but the interim administration would also impose rules that limited the likliehood of a new Coup and rapid damage.

There are still normal things that must be attempted, might even work: 2026, judicial challenges, hoping the SC conservatives come to their senses, but I'd like to hear a plausible story how that is supposed to happen. Also, Poland's reversal is worth studying. Taiwan's and South Koreas thirty years ago. It could happen, has to be tried.

But ...while the above is obviously a fantasy, I do not see any other even remotely plausible scenarios that provide a path back from this Coup.

I don't see how any of that can happen without the support of a significant number of Republicans. And there may be some that hate Trump and Musk's guts and what they're doing, but they still love being in power more.

Pull up the rug, jump around and break shit. That’s the current “administration” plan. I feel all Republicans in Congress need their pay, health insurance and benefits suspended also until Elmo can personally review their expenditures, pay, and trim the fat. If Republicans in Congress were personally vulnerable to the whims of the billionaire egomaniac, things might be different, a little. Instead, they are like the groveling underlings of a corrupt Roman emperor, maybe like Nero, sitting high in the coliseum watching the Constitution being torn to pieces by starving lions while the emperor laughs.
