Funny thing ... that their own lying has destroyed the credibility they need.

Has anyone noticed that virtually everything Trump does or says somehow seems to align with Vladimir Putin's wish list? Brexit/diminish the EU? Trump says that's the best thing ever. Weaken NATO? Trump is on it. Threaten tariffs on all the USA's trading partners? Trump's got that covered.

Today Trump speculated that it was some lone-wolf Iranian whackjob who hit the American drone, in defiance of whatever the Iranian chain of command might have ordered.

So now we have to consider the irony that Vladimir Putin's is probably the most influential voice of reason (for his own motives), trying to keep the USA from yet another major military blunder in the middle east.

I'm about 15% reassured by that idea, and 85% despondent.

And speaking personally for myself, can I just ask pointedly, why do people keep alluding to the 'competence' of Mike Pompeo in all this? He doesn't act like it, tho he's very plump and uncle-esque. Everyone knows how Bolton is a maniac, but can Pompeo really be such a fool as to believe we need to go to war with this small country? Maybe some guy from Halliburton or Exxon came to his room in the middle of the night and said "if you can arrange this war I'll make sure you get $20,000,000 all for yourself and Mrs. P to spend on yourselves, tax-free." Otherwise I just can't see it at all.

That was so discredited and crapped out long ago! That war is despised by history-- why would they turn to that horrible rationale? Is it nostalgia? Why not invite Cheney in to advise them?

and I keep saying this but nobody in gov't. ever stops to think why Iran started hating us but they have good reason-- a little question of regime change-- a little surgery we performed on them with really really bad results (for them.) But as foreigners aren't human beings they have no right to have feelings.

Not only is it a Shia/Sunni split, but the best majority of Iran is Persian and Al Qaeda are Arab supremacists. There's no way they're in any major alliance. They may cheer when the other one does something to irritate the US, but that's a far cry from working together.
