I also think it's the responsibility of the Saudis to, if somebody like us — which are the ones — are going to help them, they, I know, that monetarily will be very much involved in paying for that.

After the first Gulf War, a rumor went around that Saudi Arabia wanted to pay each US service member who participated $10k, and the Pentagon turned it down because we were not for hire. If we wind up helping Saudi Arabia fight Iran because they're paying us, I want my ten thousand dollars.
Has little to do with the oil companies. The military is one of the biggest consumers of oil products. Without affordable jet fuel, this whole superpower thing goes away. We use military force to ensure continued flow of oil from the Persian Gulf for the same reason Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
