I'm guessing you didn't read it, but that verse is about how you're judged by how you treat the least of your brothers. We're more like democratic socialists* than communists around here, so it should actually go over rather well. On top of that, the guy they beat up was homeless, which would make him the least of the least of our brothers.

Last I checked, "commies" believe the government should own businesses instead of individuals. We democratic socialists believe the government should provide for those who can't provide for themselves, at least for a while. It's great if private interests can do it through charities, but those fall short through some mixture of laziness and greed, so that's where welfare comes in.
On top of all that, I must note we're democratic socialists. Democracy isn't perfect, but it seems to work as a way to check and balance power. Socialism and democracy aren't mutually exclusive; it's not easy, but they can coexist and do so in pretty much every industrialized nation.
Not Christian? Atheist, then? That makes you even more obligated to help people, as it's clear that this is the only life we have to live. We owe it to everyone and ourselves to make it worth living.
At least this guy got to face them in court and give a victim impact statement. They had just peed on him while he was sleeping, left and then decided to come back for the beating. When that happened, people filmed it, called 911 and followed them until the State Police showed up to arrest them. The witnesses were key and that refreshes my faith in human beings. Boston Strong.
