It's Baby-Faced Mouse in the hed gif today, a Walter Lantz creation. More about the character and about Lantz (cartoonist royalty, baby) in the link: https://open.substack.com/pub/martiniambassador/p/baby-face-mouse-stealin-yer-cheese

A rite of passage in my neighborhood clique of small boys growing up into bigger boys was learning to laugh like Woody the Woodpecker. It seemed really important to be able to do that, play basketball and repair bike tires.

But as we grew up we found out that this impressive skill actually did not improve with puberty.

I used to do that laugh as a kid, it drove me mother absolutely insane.

I'm now imagining a Woody with a deepening and cracking voice, and it's giving me the giggles.

Interesting fact.

Woody Woodpecker was created by Ben "Bugs" Hardaway and features a few of the characteristics of proto-Bugs Bunny, such as his laugh.

This has been an interesting fact. Gas-Food 12 miles.

Woody was created by Walter Lantz and was drawn by Hardaway.

Yep:

It was actually Mel Blanc who did the voice (of woody which sounds exactly like proto rabbit here) till Warner’s put him under an exclusive contract

Was Tex Avery who first gave Bugs the Brooklyn wiseguy

Far as I've read, Woody was the creation of Lantz, coming up with the idea after being annoyed by a woodpecker while on his honeymoon, but I do believe Hardaway was at Lantz's studio at the time, so no doubt helped in developing some of those character traits that you've just mentioned :-)

Walter and Gracie honeymooned in the Silver Lake tract in June Lake, California. That's where Woody came to life. He soon after bought a "cabin" there and spent most of their summers there in the high Sierra. I lived in the next town south, Mammoth Lakes, for 25 years and he was still active in the area for a while after I moved there. He built a library and a baseball field for the community. Really nice folks.

You are correct, there was a LOT of cross-over between studios in the 30's and 40's, both with character ideas and personnel coming and going.

Man, I love that video of Biden. I keep thinking how exciting that'd be for the military guys to see the POTUS fulling engaged in their performance and then giving them two thumbs up. Biggest compliment they could get IMHO. Or course the lunatic fringe had to warp and pervert it.

OT, I'm so sorry - I just found out this morning that Linda Tirado is dying, and will likely make her transition very soon. She and I were on the legendary Gawker Sub-blog Groupthink together until she moved on to do a hell of a lot, and the greatest compliment I ever got was when my writing was mistaken for hers. This is so wrong - the world needs more like her. Please read her work, and for her sake stay angry and active.

Ronny Jackson gave Trump a brief dementia screener while Trump was in office! Jackson was kept on by Obama, so I assume he was competent at some level. Trump was involved in 11 million scandals during his time in office so I get why this wasn't a bigger story at the time. But now is the time for this to be a Big Deal. What does Ronny know.

Assuming wikipedia has it right, he was hired for the White House Medical Office by someone during the W administration and became physician to the President under Obama. So I may have misinterpreted your previous post. And now I know more about the guy than anyone should have to. Grumble, grumble.

The real story about the Biden 'wandering off' clip is that, on X, the first moderator added a note saying "Biden didn’t ‘wander off’. After viewing a skydiving demo with the other G-7 leaders, Biden stepped aside to speak...".

Once Musk (I assume) heard about it, he had the note changed to "the video was cropped" because of his strong commitment to making sure lies are supported on his website.

That is to say, Musk is using his cess pool to actively subvert the president and promulgate falsehoods..

This 2025 agenda shit should be on every news show and newspaper front page headline every day. It's a very detailed plan to erase every constitutional right and replace it with the whim of a dictatorial president with absolute authority. But if it is discussed at all it's only in the vaguest terms, without describing the actual impact of replacing tens of thousands of federal employees and military officers pledging loyalty to the constitution with people pledging loyalty only to Trump. Then declaring martial law, which ends every constitutional right and protection we have had for over 230 years. Even the right to (gasp) own rifles converted to essentially machine guns!

But you won't hear the talking heads on CNN, ABC, CBS, or NBC describing life without a trial by jury of your peers or even be told what law you violated or have an attorney. Or the right to send a letter to your member of Congress telling them they are poopy heads. Or the right to attend a Democratic Party or Planned Parenthood meeting, since the right to assemble is only there as long as the constitution is in effect. Or the right to vote, or the right to be free of religious interference in your life. So get ready for Mike Johnson to mandate porn buddies for everyone and establish a commission to legislate a national ethics and morals code based on the GOP bible. For everyone except Supreme Court justices and Trump.

People don't think deeply enough to imagine the US as a country where you can be grabbed off the street by police, detained for weeks, never be told why, and subjected to torture and abuse to force a confession. Then put before a tribunal of biased officers and sentenced to death, without any evidence besides innuendo and lies by a prosecutor. It would be nice if Jake Tapper spent about 5 minutes every night going over protections the constitution grants that would vanish under 2025. He could do this from now until election day and never repeat one.

We had a persistent gift card scammer at my former workplace. I feel like it had to be one person because they always pretended to be the Director, even after she retired and her name was removed from the website. It's funny that "she" followed the same script as the one in that Google doc, and a couple of employees almost fell for it.
