I’m sure confusion is the point (or a happy coincidence), but does this mean cloth masks are pointless altogether? The thought of using one for PPE working in a healthcare situation is obviously terrifying, or in a situation where I would be in an enclosed room with someone for very long (like in a classroom situation), but are they useless for a quick trip to the grocery, or passing people on a crowded sidewalk? I’m talking about the types of cloth masks that have been tested and show a good containment rate, not someone with a gauzy scarf wrapped around their face. Also, I was under the impression that they were never meant to block it altogether, but primarily to reduce viral load which...last I read was important but now ???

A tightly woven cotton double-layer cloth mask will prevent some transmission and possibly decrease viral load. Yes.

Agreed. Plus also too, cloth masks are meant to keep your snot globs out of other people’s noses and mouths. That’s still true. One less vector isn’t a bad thing...

Obviously, my opinion is not scientigic, but Barr claims he uses logic with no evidence in launching investigations or making allegations, so I can do the same. There are multiple modes of transmission on most viruses, from physical contact like door knobs, to person to person contact, to larger water globules, to vapor. It looks like with the corona virus, contact with objects is not a very significant vector, while sneezing or yelling produces larger particles that can enter your eyes, nose, and mouth. So here's where the "it just makes sense" comes in. If you are expelling the virus on droplets in a sneeze, you are also likely expelling some attached to vapor you expel. For one thing, the virus can attack your lungs, and every time you exhale, you expel vapor from your lungs, not larger droplets like mucus particles in a sneeze. There is no reason to think the virus cannot attach to that vapor just as easily as it can to mucus, although sneezing in someone's face is worse than talking to them from 6 feet away. But that vapor can stay aloft a lot longer, and can carry the virus a long distance due to the recycling nature of heating and a/c systems, carried from a vent blowing out air on one side of the room to an air return vent on the other side. These vents are usually located in the ceiling too, so the air passes closer to head level.

While it may not have the concentration to get the viral loading needed to cause an infection simply by walking past someone in a large store or on the street, putting people talking or singing in a small room for a long time allows a lot more build up of vapor carrying the virus. Like rolling dice, the more times you roll, the more often you will crap out. The more exposure you have, and the longer you have it, the more likely you are to be exposed to a high enough loading to get Covid.

As I said, this is not scientific, but I think my logic is far superior to Bill Barr's logic. And I'm sticking with it.

Slathered with heaping piles of malevolence. Actually, changing my thought. If they were just stooges, they wouldn’t always do the nasty, evil, vile thing. They are antsy oops, nasty, my first time with that interesting typo), evil fucks bent on killing dead any sense of modern, enlightened society in the United States. God fuck them, every single one of them.

Like the improvement in outcomes over the past 6 months, it will take many little things to make a big difference. Masks, distancing, washing hands and disinfecting items, avoiding large crowds in small indoor venues all help a little individually, but together can make a big difference. Add in a safe and effective vaccine that people are not afraid to take because Trump fucks up everything he is involved in, and we may get a handle on this virus later next year. Just like treatment. There is no magic bullet, and hundreds of people are dying prematurely every day in this country. But every week, more people are surviving because of many little treatments, each one maybe only helping a few percent of victims, but cumulatively making significant progress. As long as Trump will stfu and stop pushing crap like oleander and bleach injections.

CDC: Oops, we accidently told the truth and had to retract it cuz the US Government has its collective head so far up its a$$ that it can see its own clavicle bone while floating on a barge down the River De-Nile (Denial), led by our Dear Leader Orange Mummy.

Didn't Trump try to market a hair restorer? But when he used himself as an example of how well it worked, everyone said they would rather be bald.

You nailed the important parts. Dose is the poison; duration of exposure increases risk of higher dose.

From what I've read from scientific types, you're basically spot on. Outdoors and at a distance isn't such an issue because of dilution. The volume of air and the fact that it's constantly moving means you don't generally have clouds of virus just chilling in one place for a long time. Add masks and while nothing is 100%, you're making a large dent in the problem. That's why despite all the attempted drollery from anti-mask dumbfucks the situation really is different between a BLM protest and Sturgis. BLM folks are wearing masks and maintaining some distance generally and lo and behold, we did not see any spikes in case rates anywhere in the country related to their rallies. Meanwhile, BikerCon 2020 is responsible for a quarter million cases all by itself.

Good deal, that’s what I have with a non woven filter in between the layers. Last week was the first time I’ve been inside a store since March (the feed and seed and my friend’s bookshop, each for about 10 minutes, both with a couple other customers max); everyone is required to mask properly, and everyone had on either a surgical mask or what looked like a properly made and fitted cloth mask and I felt safe-ish. I don’t feel like I need to downgrade “safe-ish” with that information.

Sad thing is, a lot of Dear Leader's followers of a certain age and above want to permanently live in a Hee Haw world.

(A world with where no one supposedly cusses, tells "clean" jokes, women act a certain way, with occasional visits from Charlie Pride for appearances sake)
