I'm thinking that thresher would have to get really, really close for that to be possible.

Last week, I drove down to Portsmouth, VA on Rt 17. Lots of farms along that route, especially corn fields. I was shocked at the state of the crop. Most of the corn fields were stunted, withered and brown. I would say they are going to have a very bad crop this year.

That is one of the reasons they keep going back. It is like a shiny ring to dangle in front of the farmers. A promise of a future together.

Every day I thank the Goddess that Trump was not even close to competent at his job. I get shivers every time I think of the nightmare scenario where he was not actively wrecking the economy, and his authoritarian regime, genocide and all, would be bolstered by a happy racist electorate whose lives were actually getting better.

What continues to disturb me is that he enjoys so much support despite his utter failure to do anything good for anyone in this country other than his rich friends. We better not let ANY GOP fascist that has any smarts close to the Oval Office.

Badly run and weak companies are smartly blaming these small Tariffs instead of themselves for bad management... Isn't this trump's motto? I mean "It's never my fault, unless it's tremendous!" has been his operating theme for a while.

I have been hearing for 35 years that the mid western farmer is on the brink of doom and it's the government/big ag's fault and so on, and these morons still reliably vote for the most obvious big ag government puppets over and over again and they do not have my sympathy. Sorry.

Here are the talking points fyi: The economy is booming and unemployment is at historic lows. Black unemployment is down. The stock market is soaring. He is aggressively taking on illegal immigration. He is making great deals around the globe: Look at NAFTA and the new TPP. Yep. Those are the talking points.

I live in Madison, Wisconsin, and the narrative is that "those darn liberals in Madison don't work hard" and have forgotten about rural people. It's how Scott Walker got elected. Even with Evers as governor, because of the gerrymander the GOP controls the state government despite the total number of voters being Democratic. The GOP passed laws stripping the governor (and that seemed unconstitutional to rational people), but with the Supreme Court in GOP hands (it's completely partisan at this point) we're fucked.

It boils down to the GOP exploiting rural people for political advantage and the rural people being willing to vote against their economic self-interest because of freedum or "heritage" or whatever. Not all of them, mind you, but enough, especially the really hick counties, like Crawford. I bought a renovated barn in Green County, and it feels 50/50, with only a few Walker signs.

Curious note: Tammy Baldwin is very popular with farmers because she visits them all the time and has made their mental health problems a priority. Farmers here have a higher suicide rate than military personnel, apparently.

They'd have to do something about his big, fat belly in order to get that close!
