I stopped the guy, and asked what he was doing, how he lived with himself, and if he'd like to leave on his own, or through the nearest window. It's one of two times I've had to throw someone out of my home.

I am not familiar with what is involved in military training infor driving a truck, but I assume that it is much less than is required for driving a truck out in the public domain. I have had a couple of real bad American citizen drivers over the years driving for us & couldn’t get rid of them soon enough. During the past ten years or so, I would drive a truck a couple of times a week. Getting cut off by cars was normal. The last month or so of driving, I was run off the road twice by cars.
Hey, we spent a good week(end? It's been 40 years, so my memory is a little hazy) learning to drive both HMMWVs and two and a half ton trucks, out in the woods, on clear dirt paths with zero other traffic. And in my group, only one driver managed to get the HMMWV high-centered on a log.
You probably had some incentive to not screw up , since you had to get yourselves out of any jam you drove into. Key operative word: no traffic . That is the scary part.

As I approach retirement age, it is my understanding that my Vanguard 403b accounts will automatically start shifting the money over from the riskier (but potentially more rewarding, in a good year) portfolios over to the safer funds for that exact reason.

While I was representing the Somali driver, my friend was busy defending a Salvadoran immigrant driver. Besides being immigrants and not reading English, they all had one thing in common: they all drove for Swift Transportation.
Swift, which is now a subsidiary of Knight-Swift, is rabidly anti-union and notorious for its low pay. It is well known throughout the west for having dangerously incompetent drivers, in part because they'll "train" just about anyone who can plant their ass behind the wheel. The "problem" with immigrant drivers isn't the immigrants. As usual, the problem is the greedy assholes who don't want to pay decent wages.
Swift is an interstate freight hauler, just get their drivers out on the interstates , line driving. Drive as little as possible on surface streets. I’ve seen those right out of truck driving school who couldn’t even back up a truck.
When Swift was still kinda new, we called 'em "Slow Wagons In Fast Traffic" because they were governed to around 58 MPH. Didn't want to unleash their rookie drivers! Their training didn't amount to much, just enough to pass the written and driving tests.

I cashed out my 401k and we put it all in our joint savings account. We'll recover some of the taxes taken out when we file.
