"More than 200,000 people have signed a petition to the Canadian Parliament, submitted by a Calgary resident on July 21, calling for the removal of the [American] ambassador, Pete Hoekstra."

I'm American, not Canadian, but can I sign the petition?

Ta, Gary. We have to vote out every enabler of That Thing in the Offal Office and his minions in the cabinet. Do all you can to help other Democrats and D-leaning Independents to vote as well. When we vote, we WIN!! #TeamFight

After a lovely drive through the back roads of Sullivan, Ulster, and Delaware counties, we lunched on our beautiful Sea Island red peas with boletes and chard over Charleston Gold whole rice, with a side of perfect cornbread. Then we picked up the dogs, and are now relaxing at the pied-à-nuage. Before leaving Bethel Woods, we visited the Woodstock museum. (We were 42 minutes late for free admission, but got a discount large enough that we bought tickets). It's small, and we didn't watch any of the films, but it is much better organized than the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame we visited while in Cleveland. Brandi Carlile and her wonderful band gave a superb show, including a stellar rendition of The Joke, which I hope sincerely some D uses as a campaign song. We're both tired so we're going to nap.

Centrists have been partying hard since their establishment champion defeated Francesca Wong by a razor-thin margin, but those damn socialist kids just keep popping up all over the ding-dang place. When will they sit down, shut up and learn to love the bleak future Wall Street and AIPAC have decreed for them? Let's hope never!

Senator: I appreciate your note on Sec. Hegseth. Outside of Kash Patel one of the last qualified persons in. the whole nation to be running the Defense Department. But I want to alert you to one thing. Because of Trump, the US will have one ally going forward: North Korea. Let that sink in. North Korea. As the other nations pull money and trade out of the US, all pivoting to Western Europe for weapons and technology: Trump attacks any nation that floats through his brain in the middle of the night. Keep in mind that we may be larger than Somalia, but we will run a close second to them if this keeps up. GET RID OF TRUMP!

If I were S Korea I'd start a nuclear weapons program this instant. I bet they could build some good ones in a very short time.

I guess we dodged the Black lady bullet, and the Email lady bullet, though.

A year after President Donald Trump threatened "harsh measures" against Colorado unless the state released convicted election denier Tina Peters early from prison, new reporting has revealed an apparent extortion plot by the administration.

The New York Times reported that as Trump publicly criticized Colorado for incarcerating Peters, a former county clerk convicted of tampering with voting machines, the White House convened an urgent "brainstorm call" with five federal agencies to explore curbing federal support to the state. The next day, the Departments of Transportation and Energy announced they were canceling hundreds of millions of dollars in grants for Colorado projects.

In May, Gov. Jared Polis commuted Peters' sentence.

U.S. District Court Judge R. Brooke Jackson reacted with alarm. "I've never seen anything like it," Jackson said, according to a transcript. "The very idea that the president... would target a state because they don't feel that the state and its administrators are in line with the current administration's priorities is phenomenal."

"It’s worth emphasizing that the gambit — what was effectively an extortion plot, hatched by the White House against an American state — proved effective," Benen wrote. "But the fact that the scheme worked doesn’t make it any more defensible."

"Impeachment efforts have been launched over less," he added.

Would that Polis have called his bluff...

SunMoonStars's avatar

Damned if he did damned it he didn't. I really do that this shit. I hope the fucking moron pays in every way. I want that motherfucker to suffer in every way possible.

Axomamma's avatar

Polis knows what everyone who has paid attention knows - Trump will absolutely pull the trigger. Why wouldn't he? There has been no downside to any of the terrible things he's done either in his first term or this one. He doesn't care if the hoi polloi thinks he's trash because he's got the compliant Republican Party - including senators and representatives he's gotten kicked out of office - and the compliant media - including journalists who he left on a plane that he deemed too dangerous to fly on himself.

Polis didn't do himself any favors by caving to Trump but he was going to end up holding the bag if he didn't.

I said some things on a previous article and a few people got pissed off.

I said that Rep. Jeffries wasn't doing well anymore, and he needed to acknowledge that.

Also, I said we who are on the liberal side of the fence did some very good things for the country. We supported the black liberation movement, the women's movement, and the LGBT+ movement. Plus more.

We also raised wages.

A few people were angry with me about that. They said we never tried to stop the billionaires.

We did; we raised wages. In all the blue states, wages are now $14 an hour or more.

A few people disagreed.

I just had a bagel now, and I am drinking some coffee.

Thinking a lot.

Here's some more about the racist shit that happened to Professor Jason Arday at Cambridge.

Nathan Cofnas is the guy who was *fired from Cambridge* and started all the shit about alleged plagiarism online.

From the article:

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clyxklg3xypo

The row first erupted after another academic - self-defined "race realist" Nathan Cofnas, who was sacked from his Cambridge role in 2024 - said he found numerous instances of plagiarism in the professor's work.

Cofnas's post had been terminated amid a backlash to his view that under a true meritocracy black people would "disappear from almost all high-profile positions outside of sports and entertainment".

Cambridge had celebrated Arday's appointment as a young black professor, one of a tiny and visible minority in academia. Only 1% of professors in UK universities are black, making each appointment hugely significant.

NatalyaSResists's avatar

It's a very sad story.

C&A Bongo Man's avatar

This Nathan Cofnas was the catalyst that the media was all too willing to use to hound a man to his death.

======

In the wake of Arday's death, Nathan Cofnas (who led the X mob against him) states his motivation. Beyond whistleblowing, he states that after a 'revolution' removes professors like Arday, it will open opportunities for him to become 'head of the department of eugenics and race science at Harvard'.

The ass-kissing of authoritarian leaders really ought to be disqualifying for high political office in the U.S., but well, we are in a shit timeline where that is not so.
