Sunny is unique in that most zoo escapes never leave the grounds. The Norfolk zoo is downtown. There are parks, and waterfront, but not exactly wilds. Also Sunny was friendly and would seek help.
I had a dream last night where I was watching Eartha Kitt and holding a sign with her name on it. After the show I wanted to go have her sign it and tell her that when we talked last it had a big impact on me (that part's true--I did meet her and it did have an impact on me). But I couldn't fight the crowds...when I woke up I had forgotten she died, and I was about to write her a letter when I remembered.
Otherwise--I feel woozy today and want to go home and I'm worried about Mom's surgery.
Tasting History this week was also about the Papal Conclave - the one in 1549. Max Miller made the baby back ribs from Scoppi's Opera; food that would have been likely to have been served to the conclave since it was held in winter.
Great history lesson about the wacky times in the Conclaves.
for longer than current, Republicans gave out 'breaths' about schools and education and the thought was to start to eliminate education for the masses ... of children of working parents. Republicans do want us uneducated, unhealthy and necessary only as long as we can work for them. Education and facts and data and words like professor, scientist, teacher, librarian, engineer ... worry THEM, 'cos if they are most like 'rump, or even in your neighborhood, they are non-readers and just TELEVISION watchers. They cannot decipher reality from reality show.
I've met Ada Palmer, the professor who runs "pope class." She's a fantastic speaker. Dr. Palmer does panels on history and mythology at CapriCon, a Chicago area SF convention. And she's a lovely person to talk to.
Her talk/demonstration on the history of books was wonderful. I've taken a class on the topic, and I still learned new information from her.
Finally, I've made it to the end of Tabs as I tabbed my way through in my search for those interesting things to read. Also, too, looking for a baseline in the world before I checked to see where the groundwork for WW3 stood today. I have to say, Rebecca has managed to interest me in reading the Ryan Lizza piece on the story of MAGA lawyer Steven Biss, of suing Devin Nunes's Cow fame, and his 'estranged' wife and 'secret' and also 'bastard' child, children accusations from a maybe crazy said wife. Honestly, I didn't expect a paragraph to totally change my mind on reading about another idiot like this, but damn, I do think Lizza has managed to find a story even weirder than himself, Olivia I'm too sexy for myself Nuzzi so I'll be RFK's virtual (eww, gag) lover instead. The again, in person WOULD be worse, I guess?? Eww, and I'll go read some Traditional Trailer Trash story instead. Once I check on WW3, Thanks Editrix, that does look interesting, HA!!
"...The 8,891-kilometre-long Canada-US border — the longest undefended boundary in the world — was not the product of a single act but rather the outcome of over 125 years of treaty wrangling, surveying expeditions, and political compromises...."
I swear, the asshole has had to have failed every history test he's ever taken.
That's why I put the qualifier "he's ever taken", 'cause who knows how many he actually took. One would presume he would have had to take test in his elementary school days - but he did attend a posh private school, where Daddy's millions could have gotten sonny boy out of those requirements.
OT: I decided I’d like to make a couple of summer skirts I can pair with tank tops, so I went to my local Joann’s that is in “going out of business” liquidation.
They apparently aren’t that desperate yet to get rid of everything. All fabric was a flat 50% off, which is about the same discount you used to be able to get on a single item with their members coupon. They also set a limit of 2 yards minimum to get cutting service, so potentially forcing you to buy more than you need. (Boo.)
I managed to find some end of bolt pieces that were perfect for what I needed and I did splurge on a couple of batiks I have always loved and have enough material to make a really full skirt with waist sashing and ties.
There was a yardish fragment of light gray fabric with DONKEYS on it, which I snatched up to make an apron with. For $2.17 it is going to bring me so much joy.
Thread, notions, and accessories were also 50% off, so I did snag some top of the line needles for my sewing machine and some thread. They had no black thread though. lol.
I wrote a non-comment this morning that included my hopes that the Republican-controlled Senate would turn down the confirmation of Ed Martin, that ultra-partisan asshole at the DC US Attorney's office.
My hopes are a little less hopeful, now that I see that the Republican-controlled Senate has confirmed Frank Bisignano to be the commissioner of the Social Security Administration. While perhaps not as visible as Martin, Bisignano has called himself "a DOGE person", and considering the damage DOGE has already to the Social Security Administration, this confirmation does not bode well. The vote was 53-47, with every Republican approving him and every Democrat opposing him.
There doesn't seem to be anyone that Republicans in the Senate won't confirm.
When you go to seminary, do they have classes on how to walk slowly and what to do with your hands? Do they have intoning classes? They all seem to be very good at it and seem the same, and I always wondered if they all got classes on how not to move abruptly.
that long read on nunes/biss. hoo boy, im gonna submit to our wonkette overlords that the title of superlolyer be stripped from larry klayman and be awarded to biss in a cermony in a clogged shitter in the back of a flying j on i-75 somewhere in ohio

LOL, you must get on to making those
I'll cut you in for 40% of any profits.
John Oliver recently brought this to our attention: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_City_Trash_Pandas
I am having a hard time not buying some merchandise. It is very tempting.
I have two of their t-shirts.
One went missing from the Norfolk zoo a few years back. It’s fate is still unknown.
It bumbled it's way to the MTA subway in Boston (now called the MBTA), never to return.
Fun Fact: The MBTA calls its fare card the "CharlieCard".......
There's a bit of progressive fun in the song's roots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr3vJ8Dj2KQ
We had one go adventuring in Rock Creek Park a while back, it was eventually caught.

It’s a mystery.

The panda is already more accomplished on that piece of playground equipment than I ever was.
The Red Panda workout looks like fun.
A critical component being maintaining defiant eye contact with camera throughout.
Kawaii!
Yeah, about 250 millichans.
You're wanting us to donate -- that explains the panda-ering.
"Beach season's a comin'!"
Waited too long, last year...
I can't Bear the weight of it all?!
These are my favorite little weirdos. I didn't know they were gymnasts!
They are WEIRDOS! Are they even bears? What's with the tail?
I heard even black and white pandas aren't bears, dare I say marsupials?
Could be a panda libelz.
What even ARE they, huh???
ZOMGDS really!
I'm suspicious this particular red panda is a 3 YO in a furry suit.
Great. As if the schools aren't already bad enough, now we'll be hearing about litter boxes at daycare. :)
Red or Chinese….Why are pandas always communist? 🧐

She can kick an assailant's teeth down their throat? I like her style!
Her sister-in-law's worse. She paints her claws with poison.
Worse? I say better!

Love back at you!

Dodecahedron whore may be the only job left a year from now.
That's a lot of fucking angles.

I used to sleep in her anime room, when she lived in College Station with two of my friends

There's fairly reliable reportage that he paid someone to take his tests for him.

I don't know who Steven Biss is but I've never seen whores in the shape of a d12.
I have a d12 with whores on it, but that's different.
