Speaking of ketchup, I read today that DOJ is trying to indict Cassidy Hutchinson for lying to congress (not about the ketchup, I guess, but about Trump grabbing the steering wheel when the secret service wouldn't take him to the Capitol on Jan. 6. They have presented some shit to the GJ but will have more, is what I read.

The woman who knowingly chose, as a consenting adult, to work for Trump after she worked for Ted Cruz and Steve Scalise? [Work is a stretch for these unemployable takers, I know]. Cry me a river.

In talking about his imaginary "wife" who called him "Sir," Trump continued about the wife, "He [sic] said it's pronounced 'vEEgun'!"

Dude is psychotic, and, let's face it, aside from some assaults using money or violence, a lifelong incel.

“My colleague just got back from North Dakota, which has three-fourths of the rural hospital deserts, and they found that women there trying to deliver a baby had to drive up to two hours to get to a hospital,” Gray Media’s Molly Martinez pressed Oz in an interview posted on Wednesday.

“How are we in a system in which that is the case? What are you doing so that women don’t have to face that?”

Oz answered that “there wasn’t much financial compensation” for people to work in rural areas, Martinez replied that “The ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ cut $137 billion in rural healthcare spending. There was money there,” Martinez said. ”So this seems to be a solution to a problem the administration may have created.”

Oz touted the Rural Health Transformation Program, which set aside $50 billion for rural health programs over five years to offset Republicans’ cuts to health care. But Martinez pushed back that the program is only “$50 billion you’re putting into a system that you just robbed of $137 billion.”

"That is incorrect and dishonest and deliberately duplicative— duplicitous,” Oz fumed.

Citing findings from the Congressional Budget Office, among others, Martinez told Oz, “There are plenty of people working to show the damage that this is doing to rural healthcare, and the people are the ones that are dying on the way to the hospital that’s two hours away.”

Eventually Oz acknowledged that yes, there was money “correctly taken out” of Medicaid that was “basically legalized money laundering” and was “going to bankrupt the system.” “We didn’t cut anything,” he later added.

I love it when journalists make politicians fume. It usually means they're doing something right.

Fuck off into the sun, Dr. Ozymandias's lackey. May you find yourself having a coronary on a high mountain pass after your back tires blew out, no spare, and no cell service, even SOS. Cuts to Medicaid are KILLING people, just like the cuts to USAID. No mercy for you. No soup, either.

Yeah, but he's addressing his fellow dimwits, who follow Reagan's model, taking "pride" in their ignorance.

So what's the truth? This is your opportunity to inform the public what really happened.

When our Dad was succumbing to dementia, it was hard to tell for a while. He'd always been kinda like that. Then when the emphysema got bad enough he needed oxygen, we realized he'd been oxygen-starved for a while, so the outcome became obvious.

Then Mom had a medical emergency and had to be out of the house. One of our brothers went to stay with Dad. After the second day, he called me. He said, "Dad's not in good shape. He thought I was his college roommate, so it would have been about 1951? Then he got up, said he had to pee, and headed toward the garage. He's lived in this house for 40 years."

That doesn't happen overnight. Having Mom there kept him a state of routine. Her being gone, all his anchor points went drifting away.

Last conversation I had with him, Mom was still in the hospital recovering from major surgery. By that point, about a month after my brother had had to get back to his life, we had Dad in the nursing home. We had a great chat, on his birthday. But at a certain point, we started talking about Mom. Dad looked at me and said, "She's about your age, isn't she?"

I mentioned that that would be quite remarkable, what with her being my mother and all.

He looked confused for a moment, then burst out laughing. "Don't listen to me, I don't know what's wrong with me."

But I did.

He didn't last more than a couple days after that. It was kind of a blessing.

It was also a blessing that he wasn't President of the United States at that point.

I traveled to Milwaukee several years ago for a work meeting. Most of my Mom's family still lives around that area.

My cousin took me to visit his dad, my uncle, in a nursing home. He was suffering from dementia.

Before we walked into his room, my cousin pulled my aside and told me 'we never know how he's going to be. Sometimes you can have a pretty decent conversation with him, sometimes he's just not there. It gets pretty bad.'

Well, we walked in and my Uncle remembered me right away. He was sitting on a couch in his room watching some sporting event on TV. We sat and visited with him for an hour. Amazingly, he was just like I remembered from years past. He was mostly talking about the Bucks, the Brewers, and other sports teams. Their chances this year, etc.

Remarkable. Completely lucid, completely present, just a wonderful visit.

After we left, my cousin was almost in tears. "I haven't seen him like that in years. That was incredible."

Sadly, he passed away not too long after that.

What a beautiful memory!

swmnguy's avatar

So glad you had that time with him.

The only thing my Dad ever had was his mind. Once he lost that, for the most part, it was a mercy he didn't last too long.

He's doing a lot better in my memories than he would be if he were somehow still alive now, five years or so later.

OT (can't wait, need to vent):

So my department has six people. We actually need seven, and today was the perfect example of why that's so.

"A" can handle some phone calls, but is not trained to take care of people at the counter.

"D" isn't trained for either - she's just paperwork stuff at the moment.

"L" is on vacation this week - and next.

"R" had a home emergency, and couldn't make it in.

"J", who has already scheduled tomorrow off, evidently decided to make it a five-day weekend and didn't even call to say he wouldn't be in today.

So guess who got stuck handling pretty much every interaction with the public.....

I couldn't enjoy the lovely day by strolling around outside during my lunch break; had to grab something pre-made from a *very* nearby deli and wolf it down in the break room.

I don't know whether to have a large cold one tonight, or stuff my face full of chocolate. "Both" is probably out of the question, since I do need to be back in the office tomorrow.
