Gettysburg is a great baffle field, and a battlefield, really fantastic battle they had there, but many people are saying that Robert E. Lee, who is being recognized more and more these days, didn't really win there, not too many people know that, but we're going to win, and win bigly, win more than anyone else ever has here, except maybe Lincoln, but that Gettysburg Address of his, people talk a lot about it but the ratings, they were not so good. We're going to have fantastic ratings.
Well, the Battle lasted a few hours, the Seige lasted nine and a half months. So I, when writing a dissertation on the subject, considered the battle to be the climax of the siege. But that's just me.
So, how do you feel about the Battle of Vicksburg? Also a siege. Didn't even really have a "battle". I'm just saying that I believe that your characterization of a siege as not being a battle is subjective. I feel a siege is part of the "battle".
I didn't say a siege was not a battle, but for the record most historians would. Most sieges do in fact end with a set piece battle as either the besieging army recognizes the weakness and attacks or the defenders give it one last desperation attempt to escape. There was a distinct Battle of Petersburg, which was part of but not the whole of the Seige of Petersburg. The Siege of Vicksburg didn't end with a military operation, Pemberton knew he was beat and just gave up. The 'Battle of Vicksburg' if it could be distinct from the siege, was fought on May 19th. Grant knew that night he had won but he had to wait them out. But the difference is lost on most people who aren't such hopeless history geeks that they bought a house on a Battlefield.

Even better!
That's only if you assume the siege wasn't part of the battle. Discuss.
Yeah, it's deep in Pennsyltucky. Good point about the monuments being placed through private donations.
I refrained from suggesting he grab it by the trench.
And the crowd was much bigger it was bigly better.
Well actually it may be read into the record prior to his leaving for the bigger house.
The 1988 Gettysburg Address prompted the Battle of Agincourt, which ended the Russo-Japanese War, which was a very bad thing.
Are all the Hooters is Florida booked that night or something?
Only one place: Benghazi
I'm cool with Trump having a rally where a bunch of Confederate fucks ate it.
These terrible motherfuckers.
