OMG, I am so sorry. I loved Villago's comments, and was always flattered when he liked mine. His knowledge and passion were both inspiring. What an absolute tragedy.
I never had the personal relationship with either poster that some of yall did, and this still hit me hard.
Life is short. Dont let the hellscape of politics keep you from what really matters. I unironically want to send thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.
For those who don't know: it is a mix of Cato the Elder's remark at the end of every speech "Et certeo, Carthago delenda est" (and I assert, Carthage must be destroyed) with a quote by a GI in Vietnam "We had to destroy the village to save it" (the only way to clear out all the VC was to burn the whole town down-- see Gaza for example).

Hello. This is Hannah again. Earlier today, in the morning hours in the CET time zone, Walter Wellstone reached the end of his journey on this planet. He went quickly and peacefully with top-notch professional assistance in compliance with the laws and regulations of this locale. We made the decision to launch the exit protocol after careful evaluation of his condition and evidence-based consensus that his condition no longer allowed him to function normally in his world.
Walter was my best friend, my mentor, my guru, and my hero. We met in Geneva in 2005. He was this fascinating American diplomat who carried himself at ease as a true citizen of the world in any setting. He owned a room the moment he walked in. He drew everyone around him towards him and got everyone’s attention with just the tone of his voice. We got married in 2006 and lived all over the world in those few years of his career. To me, that was the adventure of a lifetime. My native Switzerland was all I knew before I met him and, as the song says, I never reached the end of the road while traveling with him.
I used to joke that Jack Donaghy of 30 Rock was based on him except for the character’s defect of being a Republican. I fell in love with him from the moment I met him and learned to love him and admire him madly with every day we spent together.
At 78, he died a physically healthy man. His body was a work of art. It was only his brain that went to shit, as he liked to say. The last few months of his life were heartbreaking as his consciousness faded away rapidly. According to his instructions, we were required to launch the exit protocol the moment he failed to recognize me. We postponed that until the moment he failed to recognize our pets. When that happened consistently for 30 days, we knew it was time and we proceeded as planned.
Next, I’m taking his ashes to our home in Costa Rica. His ashes will fertilize a new acacia tree seedling we’ve been grooming for the occasion (he picked it himself). My job is going to be taking care of it for the foreseeable future. Regardless, he’s with me as I live on and will remain so until the day I die. He said to me I should do whatever it takes to be happy and I will do that. I knew what I was signing up for when I married a man 30 years my senior and I’m ready to live this new phase of my life with everything I can give it. No matter how that goes, he will be with me always.
He asked that I come back to Wonkette and inform you of his passing. That is now done. Thank you for the attention.

What a loving act, thank you for informing us and thank you for your kindness in taking care of Walter through this final path. May your heart find peace.
He was a teacher here, and we cherished him. When he told us of his diagnosis and of his plans to leave on his own terms, I told him he would be remembered, and he will be.
Hannah, if you see this, I very much enjoyed Walter's presence and I hope that you have much support around you. Be well, enjoy his memory, and nurture the hell out of that tree.
Ain’t love grand? Thanks for loving Walter enough to see him through to the end he chose, and sharing him with us. Your life together was more than most could wish for.
A beautiful tribute-it made me cry. I'm sorry for your loss, Hannah and glad you had so many happy years and that he got to leave on his terms. Wishing you peace and comfort.
Plenty of states also have adequacy lawsuits and state Supreme Court cases around their state’s funding formulas and the FAPE promise, where they state ensures a specific level of funding.
The DoE largely redistributes blue-state wealth to red states, where education suffers for lack of state wealth. Any Republican NOT living in a blue state will soon learn that, but for blue-state largesse, red states will sink back into a level of destitution not seen since the 19th and early 20th century.
As Elon siphons this federal money into his and his peers' pockets, will those losing out wonder where it went? Will they listen when we tell them--that it did not go to greedy immigrants, or "entitled" minorities (an old GOP favorite; see "Welfare Queens"), or trans folks, but into the offshore bank accounts of those already impossibly rich?
That's my senator. His initial reaction to the election was disappointing; he blamed a focus on identity politics, which was wrong. But he's learning. Murphy has always showed that he can learn fast, and lead. I don't care if he's gunning for a presidential run.
I want to complain about an anime, but if I do, I want to describe the plot, and my trying to do that resulted in a wall of text that I worry would just bore the hell out of most of y'all.
Anyway, the "romance" in this rom-com is more fucked-up than most of them, and that's saying something. I like the female MC, and the comedy part is pretty good, but attitudes of the other characters towards her are just setting my teeth on edge.
Yeah. The MC has stated, repeatedly and with vigor, that she has zero interest in her would-be paramour, but everyone pretty much just ignores her. Currently she's locked up in the castle and under guard so that she won't run off again. The maid that's taking care of her just told her, basically, that since the prince confessed his love for her so ardently she *owes* him to reciprocate his feelings, and that's what triggered the comment above. Well, that and the stuff up to this point.
Hm. I can see an ending to this: She's bone-tired and covered in blood, walking away from a mass of flaming ruins filled with corpses - and not looking back, because anime, and therefore reasons.
(MC): (huffs) "Maybe I'll go to cosmetology school and get a job at a salon . . "
I loved the first episode. I'll try to make this really short, but anyway, she's taken to the castle to undergo "princess lessons" at a very early age and being a total tomboy, she hates them. But you can see the life getting (metaphorically) beaten out of her as she ages, until by the time she's 16 or so her eyes are like a doll's and her face and voice completely lack expression. Then at a party, the prince comes in with another girl. Lettie (the MC) asks, "Does this mean our engagement...?"
Prince Clark averts his eyes and says, "Exactly."
Lettie stands there for a beat, then her face and eyes light up, she throws her hands in the air and shouts, "YATTA!" Then she starts wringing the hands of the other girl and saying thank you so much for rescuing me from the hell of princess lessons, peace out, I'm gone. Then she runs out of the ballroom, kicks off her shoes and runs out of the castle to a carriage, and immediately takes off for her family's country estate. :-D :-D
Finally over the sick, well enough to go to work and it is...freezing raining all morning
/mutters/
I actually love my job, like a whole lot, so I am probably due a good slack, but idk if a sudden random vacation would really be justifiable to my head XD Ah well, a little office time is good for you, from time to time
Our temps are swinging back and forth between early winter and early spring all this week (near 70F one day, mid-50s the next, with lows between 30 and 40), but next week is forecast to be nothing but chilly temps and rain. :-(
I don't expect Wonkers to care much about the full video, it's Pokemon related, but the start is SO cute. It's the YouTuber talking about his cat sitting in the doorway, nearly invisible because it is a black cat. Looming. So the first fifteen seconds are cat related.
Yup. This was a react to an event he was in. A different creator I like gathered many creators and they try to get every shiny Pokemon in a generation within 24 hours. Gen 1 was rough, Gen 2 they were only short one (Raikou), and then Gens 3 and 4 they got all of them (with nearly ten hours to spare in Gen3). It helped that for the latter two they got one creator who is amazing st setting up sixteen DS systems to run at the same time on her computer (literally plugging in 16 Nintendo DS that are all running legit games) to get the mythical mons that are marginally easier to get in Japanese versions. She's a shiny hunting fiend.
They're taking a break before Gen5 since they need to check odds and things since Gen 5 and onward haven't had remakes yet and Gen5 having such a big Dex with such low odds might make it one they want to skip and try something else.
I had a cat who did that to me during a skype interview
My first interview, it should be noted, for 3 years on account how I took off that time for spawn related purposes (and that we moved to a very rural county where there were no jobs that would pay me for the day care it would cost).
I coulda sworn I had blown it, what with cat ass in the camera, but the boss man thought it was hilarious and thought I handled it very cool and calm
I've commissioned two drawings for Valentine's Day. Each one is of one of my female characters, tastefully dressed, and holding a heart-shaped sign with a saying based on the ones in this video:
I was just telling hubby that if anything happened to me, he was to take the insurance, for my employer does that much and it is not a small amount, sell the house, and take the spawn anywhere else. Could probably live real well in like Costa Rica or somewhere on that amount for many years
He asked well what about you, and I was all, I will be dead and won't care, so whatever you want
I think it is nice we sorta keep tabs, so to speak, enough to notice and care if someone isn't around, and double nice when folk let us know no, they're all good
If Linda blocked you, then she blocked me too because I haven’t seen her either, but I haven’t been around as much. I think they’re just taking a moment.
lol don't do that XD you don't do anything mean so there'd be no reason to do something like that, and I doubt Linda or Babe would block anyone, even a lion.
You're a good 'un. And by mean I mean like constantly ragging on folk here in a bad way, while repeating the same goddamned thing over and over and over again
Got woken up about half an hour before I normally wake up. The people who run my school district had finally decided that maybe having people drive in an ice storm is a bad idea.
I don't normally hope for snow days, though I'm always glad not to have to drive in shitty weather. But after the shit show that was yesterday at work, I'm quite glad to not have to go in today.
NPR article on Bondi's new DOJ directives had me go "huh" on one.
"The other relates to President Biden's decision in his waning days in office to commute the death sentences of 37 people on federal death row to life in prison. The Bondi memo directs the Justice Department to, among other things assist local prosecutors in pursuing death sentences under state law against the 37 individuals who received commutations."
I'm not sure how well this would work. 1) you have to have state/local prosecutors who are willing to put resources towards trying someone who already has life in prison. 2) State law and federal law don't always line up neatly. 3) could this be considered double jeopardy?
I remember having debates in high school and some people would get so crazy in arguing their point even though they didn't believe in it at all. They simply wanted to win.
The biggest "but we won" I did not witness but it got a whole class in trouble. A class I was not in that was doing logic and history stuff decided to have the kids play parts and try to understand the whys of the Treaty of Versailles that ended WW1. Uh. They forgot they had a lot of edgelords who hated France and loved Germany. So they DISSOLVED FRANCE AS A NATION and gave it to Germany and its allies for kicks. No one pointing out how France was one of the victors of the war, and thus NOT subject to giving shit up, mattered. Fuck France, Heil Germany.
Yeah. Like. 6 are VA, two CA, one IL, and one MI. The others are all states that will jump to do this--lotta Texas, Carolinas, and other southern states.
Some of 'em state crimes might not stick, since they are in trouble for killing someone in a federal facility or on federal land so you'd have to totally redo the entire case for whatever the state equivalent might be even if jurisdiction was handed over. Others are there for being involved in a crime where someone died, but not doing the killing, so again, might not wasted the resources.
Like, the probably easiest to prove are the two from CA who kidnapped and ransomed 5 immigrants from Russia and Georgia but again, they're facing Life In Prison and I don't see CA wasting the time or money unless there's specific outcry.
Locally, we had a teenager named Collin Griffith found Not Guilty by a jury of the charge of killing his mother. He went with a self-defense argument, and the jury was unable to find a way to the beyond a reasonable doubt standard.
Naturally, the county sheriff still insists the young man murdered his mother, and probably murdered his dad as well (he claimed self-defense in that case, too, as well, also).

His family and friends are in my thoughts.
I always looked forward to reading a comment by Villago. My condolences to his family and friends.

I loved Villago's comments and often wished I'd written them.
Another terrible loss.
Why??????????????
So sorry. {{Hugs}}
I am heartbroken.
That's terrible news. I am very sorry. I enjoyed his comments.
My condolences.
So sad to hear about the loss of Villago. He was so insightful. I learned a lot from him. He will be missed.
He was so good, and so smart.
DAMN.
Peace be upon him and Walter Wellstone
May his memory be for a blessing.

Oh no! You were a good one, Walter. Rip.
I remember a piece on NPR that claimed you live on until the last time your name is spoken. Walter will live on for quite a while.
I think that was a Moth Radio story. Which talked about having had a building named after him so he was destined to be here for forever.
Plenty of states also have adequacy lawsuits and state Supreme Court cases around their state’s funding formulas and the FAPE promise, where they state ensures a specific level of funding.

I thought so, I did. The choices I have waiting to be posted were, prior to getting this commission, both NSFW.
I'm just sayin'. Whoever is holding the "Judge Judy Replaces SCOTUS" card. Maybe now would be a good time to play it.
I am honestly shocked Alito and Thomas haven't retired yet, but I expect they will in this term.
I bet they were told to already at the very least
They better get their coffers open.
I want a Get Out Of USA Free Card something fierce.

Anyone seen Do Something Linda? I haven't seen her in some mornings. Hope she's doing okay. (Hope she doesn't have me blocked, LOL.)
It seems like about a week since I saw her about.
While I've not seen her yet this morning I did interact with her yesterday more than once.
Damn it. Every time someone asks a question like this, I'm sure I'd just seen the person, but then I realize I can't actually remember when that was.
I think it is nice we sorta keep tabs, so to speak, enough to notice and care if someone isn't around, and double nice when folk let us know no, they're all good
I have not, nor Babe recently :/
Getting a tinge on the worried side, considering.
I have seen both here within the past 48 hrs.
:hugs: thank you, Skepti!
I an here to serve, love.
I saw Babe just yesterday.
I haven't seen BP either. I just assume I am blocked when someone disappears.
People just maybe need a minute
"you don't do anything mean"
Girl, you have missed a lot! I am a bit of "the man you love to hate."
That was when you had a more hostile user name.
It was the Pretzel, I swear!
NAW
You're a good 'un. And by mean I mean like constantly ragging on folk here in a bad way, while repeating the same goddamned thing over and over and over again
I don't see you ever doing stuff like that
Oh, I must have that person blocked.
I am pretty sure I saw Babe yesterday in one of the threads.
thank you!
We were expecting snow and ice overnight but didn't happen so Arlington and DC are normal operations. Just rain today.
We got it here in the Barrens of Vermont too. I work at a school, so playday for me!
Nothing here overnight at Jay Peak, but it looks like weather later might cancel my evening music night.
The Super complied in advance of the weather.
Now that made me smile
There is a word for that slap-happy slag but I cannot engage it here.
She's an evil piece of shit. And that's perfectly accurate!
I think I know the word you mean.
😉
I should've been born in Australia [issues cheeky wink].
I have an irrational affection for Australia.

Cruelty is the point
Teacher was so pissed.
I too remember this, but I do not think this is that.
I think this is more wearing sunglasses to the debate to look cool and aloof, but with people's actual lives
#winning
The sickness of these people is unending.
It's like they are possessed by demons of cruelty and hate.
They admire, not only approve of the use of, cruelty and hate.
There seems to be an important chunk of brain missing in them.
The empathy module was replaced with an extra cruelty module.
Bit of an uphill climb, but these assholes aren't averse to tilting at windmills.
Yeah.

Wow. Yeah system failed that kid but good.
I just feel sick contemplating what that kid has suffered through in that family.
No child should have to contend with this shit.
When he kills his brother and claims self-defence . . .

Spartanburg County, SC, Sheriff: “I deputized my son. What’s the problem, chickapay?”
All the old Westerns you see the local sheriff is always deputizing anyone they want, willy nilly. I'm not sure it's supposed to work like that.
