I wish I had seen an explanation this clear yesterday. I declined to donate to a PAC hoping to flood Spanish-language ads into those areas and tried to explain why.
I used to work with psychographics. We learned we really can't assume that attitude follows ethnicity. If anything, attitude follows how we feel about our ethnicity when the pool is racist, and on how we feel about our chances at making our lives better.
I was shocked to see a dense row of Trump signs fencing a trailer park in a blue section of the county. I wonder if the feeling that "this is all I got" -- economic and maybe psychological dissociation at either extreme -- makes a Trump voter. If you have too much or too little, you just can't have the experience that informs the values of the the middle.
ETA: The rich that I have known think they're poor.
I’m better off than I was four years ago, although this is Canada Edition, solely because the provincial government unexpectedly introduced a second electricity price subsidy (electrical companies are publicly owned in Canada). Because I am so fucking poor on government disability plus for medical reasons use a lot of electricity, this has bumped up my income a noticeable amount. And if you’re on government benefits for life if your income goes up any amount greater than $15 a year it’s time to break out the champagne! 🍾 Which is Fresca. 😊
