In addition to being hateful and remarkably incurious, he is really uninformed about pop culture, as well as being incredibly uncultured generally. He is probably, without exaggeration, the dumbest president we’ve ever had. I think on some level, despite the Dunning-Kruger Effect, he has to know he doesn’t know much. So he covers it up with bluster and infantile insults. And the sense, born of insecurity and laziness, that if he doesn’t already know something it’s not worth knowing. He keeps bringing up Hannibal Lecter, as others have suggested here (and it makes sense) because he doesn’t understand the difference between political asylum and an insane asylum. He thinks he’s being clever.
